Disguising themselves as women, they join an all-female jazz band and hop a train bound for sunny Florida. While Joe pretends to be a millionaire to win the band's sexy singer, Sugar, Jerry finds himself pursued by a real millionaire as things heat up and the mobsters close in.Set in the 1920s, ๐บ๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐ is based on a screenplay for a French film entitled ๐ญ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐, which was released in 1935 and directed by Kurt Hoffman. Like a vulture gnawing on an uninspired carcass, ๐บ๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐ borrows from it the premise of two musicians who join an all female Orchestra, though in the source material it is a matter of needing employment that drives the narrative.Keen to the value of urgency(Amongst other things, given public reception to ๐บ๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐โs themes), Wildersโ leading men find themselves as witnesses at the tale-end of a tragedy that was also inspired by the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre of 1929; this is indicated by loose allusions to Irish and Italian mobsters, and an eventual reference to the fact of the suspected mastermind Al Capone was staying in Florida at the time said event took place. Victims of circumstance, Joe and Jerry ditch Chicago with stilettos in tow (With their toes and some stilettos, #HAHA), their livelihoods depending on how well they can sashay through tense and provocative situations.Having moved to the United States when he was almost thirty after having originally having worked as a filmmaker in Berlin, it might be fair to assume that in terms of content Wilder's leaning towards those deemed โcontroversialโ was second nature; produced without the stamp of approval from Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America because it features cross-dressing (And sexual innuendos), Wilder's outright defiance of the Hayeโs Code put ๐บ๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐ at ends with conservative viewers. this is further evidenced by general adherence to what became informally known as the โthree-article ruleโ during the 50s and 60s, which advised the wearing of three items of โgender appropriate clothingโ to avoid being arrested for public impersonation or disguise. All that accounted for, the zealed commitment demonstrated by Wilder's crew cannot be overstated, nor can anyone involved be written off as pawns in some slapstick stunt. Lemmon and Curtis embody their boy-meets-girl quandary with great jolly, cognizant of the space between every significant figure and punchline. Judging by the end product alone, even Marilyn Monroe relishes her presence as a notably attractive woman with charm, hyper-aware of her appeal and how easy it would be to designate her as nothing more than a placeholder for shallow attraction. With the exception of interactions where objectification runs awry (Though perhaps serving a point to be made), ๐บ๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐ vulgarity extends as an exercise in gender roles and relationship dynamics. Through their time as (And, most importantly, amongst) โwomenโ Jerry and Joe are made acutely aware of conduct the sex opposite of them are expected to choke down as โoccupational hazardsโ, though what manifests certainly isn't indicative of enduring change or self-awareness. In fact, it is quite the opposite at times, as there's a constant game of โguess whoโ afoot, though they do lend to a larger conversation surrounding preconceptions about what makes an ideal partner; such is to blame for its mosaic of curated (Albeit ridiculous) experiences in this exposรฉ that result in both ๐บ๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐'s most comedic moments and those that tend to be more heartwarming or sentimental.Altogether, it is somewhat of a mystery what the creation of ๐บ๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐ was meant to achieve, except to say that throughout the entirety of his career Billy Wilder managed to distinguish himself as a director who was uninterested in pandering to expected regulations and the like. That said, there really is something quite pedestrian that transpires here given the fact this story centers around two blokes that are just trying to make the best of a terribly (And rare) situation, and some of the intrigue is in seeing people evidently get what they deserve. Whether it be freedom, earnesty, or whatever else can be extrapolated from its iconic final line, with sincerity and wit ๐บ๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐ shows us that even when life drags (Literally, even) it can be its own kind of wonderful: And even when itโs not it might be worth it to hike whatever figurative skirts get thrown our way higher and play along.

Some like it funny! 4K Blu-ray of this comedy classic looks great!
The 4K Blu-ray of Some Like it Hot, one of the funniest and most beloved comedies of all time, looks great. Not mind bogglingly incredible like some 4K Blu-rays, but a pretty huge step up from any other version out in any other format.Being a film from it's time period, the film grain was a little thick for my taste, but that's the way film stock from that time period was. No way to reduce it without reducing fine detail in the picture (and the fine detail looks very good--I'm glad they didn't mess with it in any way). The addition of HDR certainly brings some welcome and very attractive "pop" and "sparkle" to the image that SDR versions will unfortunately always lack by their very nature. This is by far the best I have ever seen this wonderful movie look and I am extremely happy I made the purchase of this 4K disc. The movie itself is one of the most popular comedies of all time. In it, Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis (who's character has a reputation as an incorrigible womanizer) play prohibition era musicians who accidentally witness the St. Valentine's Day massacre and, as a result of being the only living witnesses, become hunted by the mob (who would like to turn them into "no longer living" witnesses).Since the mob is watching every bus and train station while hunting them, the only way the two musicians can come up with to escape the city under the mob's noses is to dress up as women and travel by train in the guise of the newest members to join an all woman band travelling to a job in Florida. The idea is that once they reach their destination and are safely away from the city and in Florida (where the band has their gig at a very posh resort hotel) they'll then ditch the women's clothing and skedaddle. But, then they meet the sexy and vivacious Marilyn Monroe, who simply can't be resisted by the lecherous Tony Curtis. He must have her and simply cannot fight his hormones enough to resist, even if it means keeping up the routine of being a woman in order to, counter intuitively, get close to her.And then arrives the millionaire on the scene, played by comedian Joe E. Brown, who falls head over heals for Jack Lemon while in the guise of his female alter ego Daphne. And the millionaire will not take no for an answer! He showers Jack Lemon with gifts and fancy dates so overwhelming that they actually begin to turn his head! He gets so carried away that he has to keep reminding himself over and over again that he's not actually a woman! This is one crazy, goofy, and very funny classic masterpiece of a comedy that has remained beloved by viewers over the many decades since it was first made.If you love this movie (and many, many millions like myself do), then this 4K disc is a must buy item. I can't imagine a better version ever being available. This disc is truly the penultimate version of this wonderful film.
