Are the problems fixed with the 6.5 creedmoor gauge? I would like to buy this but the bad reviews make me nervous..

Was just as concerned, but took a chance because I like Lyman gauges for all my calibers. Worst case return back since Amazon has great return policy. Fit perfectly with factory 6.5 Creedmoor ammo.

What is different in purpose between this and the orange-colored ammo checker?

Yellow is anodized making it more resistant to rust. Otherwise they are identical.

Have they fixed the issue with the incorrect machining yet? Will a 6.5 Creedmore fit?

I purchased the Lyman 6.5 creedmoor case legnth and head space gauge a little over a year ago. I have not had any problems with casings not fitting in my rifle. The gauge works very well and I've had no problems. However, if there was a machining issue, I have not experienced it with my gauge.

Could you manually measure case length with caliper (even though less convenient) to save the money?

Case length and head space gauge is PRIMARILY used to ensure that your casing has the proper head space. If head space is off then you're bullet will not fit properly in your chamber, thus not allowing your bolt to lock. Caliper is fine to measure case length, but not head space.
