AMAZING!!! This thing is built to withstand a nuclear blast. I did a lot of land navigation in the army, and this thing would get me somewhere. It even has a tool to show you the angles at which you may be going uphill when walking. I am trying it out next weekend in the field, but I have been using it around the house. This thing is great! Great value for the money, looks and is easy to read. It functions like it should and then some in my opinion.

Well made compass, has some heft to it. If you are trying to replace a Brunton IMO it works better for sighting targets (drill rigs) is slower for taking dips/inclinations, and you cannot lock the declination which is a bit annoying because it is easy to accidentally rotate the glass so you must train yourself to always check you declination setting before taking a measurement. I am a geologist.

I'm very impressed with this compass. It has a very reasonable price, yet is very sturdy and durable. It has all the features I need for safely traversing the woods of western Oregon where I live, far from trails. Highly recommended.

Considering the price it was almost a 4 star. It is really heavy, and there isnt enough friction in the hinges. Combine that with them putting the lanyard on the thumb loop and it basically all falls open when you hang it. It needs a seperate lanyard loop. I corrected it by wedgimg the lanyard loop so it is hanging from the hinge pin - no more weight on the end of the thumb loop and adds friction in the hinge so it stays closed, but its gonna get abraded. Needs a lanyard loop cast in. The clinometer is useless and gets in the way. The pendulum can go past the sheet metal and keep the clamshell from closing, and you cannot see the compass face while its closed - so why is there a magnifying dot on the outer glass? Not to mention there is no way to sight a distant object and get a reading because there is no sight level with the body. Its also flimsy. I am going to remove that. The accuracy issues others mention - I think thats because they are not waiting on it to stabilize. Its a bit over dampened. Mine is accurate enough if you wait, but youre gonna have to stop walking to get a decent read - not that you can read it on the hoof anyway because of the stupid clinometer. Have to open it all up. The level - should be where you can kinda get an eye on it while sighting. Should be on the side by the lens like their cheaper one. The scale - nit picking but I would rather instead of having a scale with meters and a ruler in cm, to have 2 scales, the second in miles. Could be a lot worse for the money, but it also could be a lot better with just a little thought put into its use.

Der Kompass ist aus Metall, ziemlich massiv und dadurch nicht ganz leicht. Scheint mir aber ein guter Kompromiss zu sein, was Schutz, Haltbarkeit, Einsatzfähigkeit etc. betrifft. Die Bestimmung von Norden und das Einrichten einer Karte ist durch die gerade Außenkante mit dem 'Lineal' ist einfach. Für alles andere braucht es Übung. Damit meine ich die Bestimmung des Standortes auf der Karte, die Ermittlung der Entfernung zu bestimmten Punkten und das Bestimmen von Steigungen. In der Bedienungsanleitung ist das beschrieben. Dafür muss etwas gerechnet werden. Die Einrichtung zur Steigungsmessung lässt sich leicht ausklappen. Ist mit 2 Schrauben befestigt. Das 'Lot' ist sehr leichtgängig. Muss es auch. Wenn man die Steigungsmessung nicht braucht, nervt das Geklapper ein wenig. Zumindest geht es mir so. Es gibt auch eine Ausführung ohne Steigungsmesser, bzw. lässt sich der Steigungsmesser abschrauben. Das Anpeilen von Landmarken im Gelände mit dem Linsenvisier funktioniert einwandfrei. Allerdings sieht man bei meinem Gerät zwischen der beweglichen Gradanzeige und dem Gehäuse eine kleine Unsauberkeit. Weiß nicht, was das ist? Klebstoff? Werde es demnächst mal aufschrauben und checken. Hat auf die Funktion keinen Einfluss. Mich stört es etwas, weil es direkt auf 12 Uhr im Sichtbereich ist. Wäre es auf 9 Uhr oder 3 Uhr, würde es gar nicht auffallen. Der fluoreszierende Ring leuchtet nach Anregung mit Licht, könnte für mich aber etwas heller sein. Bin von Superlumina-Beschichtungen in bestimmten Armbanduhren verwöhnt. Der Drehring des Kompass lässt sich satt bewegen. Nicht zu leicht, nicht zu stramm. Gerade richtig. Vielleicht bin ich in machen Dingen etwas pingelig. Bitte davon nicht abschrecken lassen. Der Kompass ist trotzdem gut. Kaufempfehlung.

I can honestly say this compass easily exceeded my expectations by a country mile! Rather than some cheap, nasty plastic device, this is a heavy, robust & beautifully made instrument. It absolutely exudes quality, both with its fit & finish but right down to the damping of the compass itself & the surrounding bezel. It easily belies its price, being much higher quality than some units that cost several times more. It even comes in it’s own well made cammo’ pouch. It is so good in fact, I purchased an additional 3x units for my friends Christmas presents. Absolutely exceptional!
