I used it to detect runout on a large drill bit to determine how much my drilled holes would be off. I used the measurement to determine that I needed to get a replacement chuck - one that was not so worn out. After the new chuck was installed, the run out now reads 0.005. That's better than the 0.010 where it started. I would also replace the spindle because the taper was also damaged. THAT part is no longer available. My Fowler Dial Indicator is a very useful tool. The magnet grabbed the drill press drilling table very solidly. Once I figured out how to set it up, it was easy to use. The price was very affordable and it's the right size for what I'm trying to do.
