Review: Sandals with a learning curve. And size down! - Luna Sandals are more rugged variants of the huarache. They are very lightweight and comfortable once broken in, but they can have a very annoying learning curve and break-in period. I'm giving the sandals five stars because they are very well built, but it's not uncommon at all for it to take over a week to find a strap configuration that works for you. There are two tricks to getting these sandals to fit properly. First, most important, is the size. You want very little material around your feet. These are different from most other sandals. The less material, the better. This means you will almost always want to size down, which Luna recommends. I'm a size 10 in shoes, I actually had to get these in size 8 to get a proper fit. Even a size 9 was too large for my feet. The second trick, and it's really counterintuitive, is to not over-tighten the straps. The key is "snug, not tight." If you've worn Birkenstocks, the rule is you want to be able to fit a finger between your feet and the straps. Same thing here. You want the straps to be snug but not tight. This lets your foot move properly. If they are too tight, the straps will actually force your foot into a fixed position, usually causing the sandal to turn inward or outward. (Not to mention it can cause foot pain). Adjustment will take a while. Eventually you'll find something that works. (I also like having my foot a little more forward in the sandal as opposed to centered or pushed back, but this totally depends on you). The quality is very good. The Vibram sole is very durable and a good choice for hiking and trails. Probably not the best option for really rugged things like rock climbing, but these are great for most typical day hikes. They are also easy to clean and dry very quickly, which can be a big deal if you are going to be trekking through rivers or bodies of water.

(Sorry in advance for my ugly feet in the photos.) Original Review 7.17.23: I ordered the incorrect size and wound up with a sandal that was 1.5 to 2 sizes too small for my foot. Neverless they still (because they're sandals) just barely fit me with the tiniest over-hang of large toe at front, and heel right to the very edge at the back (I have very short toes). No, I didn't keep them, but am posting a review simply to state how fantastic they felt, even this small, right out of the box. Perfect stack height for grip AND flexibility. My main sandal for several years now are Bedrock sandals (which I adore). These are very similar but this particular model gives me the grip of those, plus the smaller stack height of even more minimal sandals. I bought a pair of these Oso Flaco Winged along with a pair of their model "Origen Flaco" (correctly sized) directly from Luna at the same time to try out. I am keeping the Origens (they have tired tread and leather upper) but like these lighter, grippier Oso Flacos so much I may reorder in the correct size and have both. Just two fantastic sandals right out of the gate. My wife has a couple pairs for two or three years now and loves them. I understand why. (And none of this is to say these are better than Bedrocks... I don't think they are, but they are every bit as good. **Q: Does this come with the tech strap?**
A: Our Winged Editions do not come with tech straps as the wings will hold the heel section up on the heel. The tech straps are designed to be worn with our Retro versions.

**Q: why are these sizing so small? how do i buy 10.5 using this site?**
A: They're meant to have only a small amount of sandal around your foot, I recommend printing out their sizer and measuring against it. Definitely would have ordered the correct pair the first time if I had done so myself.

**Q: I am woman with 81/2 shoes size. what size will i need to buy with luna? i a little confused. thank you.**
A: I agree that this can be confusing.  I am a woman and have found that my shoe size 7 is true to size for the luna sandal. I tried the 7 and the 7 1/2 women's sandals and the 7 1/2 was too big.    If you are unsure I would suggest going 1/2 size larger rather than smaller.   Be sure not to get confused by the sometimes simultaneous men's sizing.   I think my women's 7 was also a labeled as men's 5?

A: So…with Luna’s, you really do want to get the proper size. Too small and your toes are over exposed; to large and you’ll undoubtedly catch the excess material in stride and the sandal will fold under foot. I speak from experience - experimenting with Luna’s since 2010. Go to their site directly, get the right size and enjoy the journey of finding your perfect Luna. It’ll likely not be found on the first attempt.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great water shoes, but CHECK SIZING GUIDE

These sandals were perfect for a beach vacation, but I highly recommend that you CHECK THE SIZING GUIDES on Luna Sandals website before purchasing. Based on the sizing guides, I bought maybe 3-4 sizes below my usual size. These sandals were a last minute purchase before I headed to the rocky beaches of the southern France. I wanted some minimalist sandals that could double as water shoes, and these were perfect for that. The tread was very grippy even on wet surfaces so I didn’t slip at all on the sea rocks. The insole (?) wasn’t slippery either, and the straps kept my feet snugly in place. I don’t usually like sandals with straps that go between my toes, but these were plenty comfy from first wear. The only negative I experienced is that, in comparison to water shoes, these sandals did allow some little rocks to slip in and get stuck below my foot and the insole, but it was easy enough to wash those out of the way. After wearing them in the water, I could still comfortably wear them for the 1-2 mile walk back home. I didn’t try wearing them for long-distance walks or hikes tho. Overall, would highly recommend.
