Wonderful source of information for all lovers of Timba, Bass and Percussion
This book is a wonderful source of information for all lovers of timba, bass and afrocuban music in general. Timba is a fantastic genre of music that is constantly evolving - but information about the specifics of Timba bass have been hard to find in writing. This book has been written by one of the top musicians who has himself been in the forefront of Timba for a long time - after studying with some of the greatest legends of afrocuban music. Feliciano Arrango is an artist of timba bass who has put his signature of playing into many of the great Timba hits of recent years.Feliciano Arango was the original bassist of the famous timba group NG La Banda. He played with them for over a decade before he formed his own group. Additionally he can be heard on other recordings as well. Readers of timba.com recently voted him as the greatest timba bassist of all times. It is ridiculous to even hint that the authors would not be familiar with the clave, as you can see from the book and hear from the CD examples that the authors live and breath the various claves that are used in many types of afrocuban music. If you're still in doubt, listen to him play on any of the great hits of NG La Banda. If still not convinced, check out the music of Los Hermanos Arango where you'll be blown away by his way of connecting of afrocuban folkloric rhythms and Jazz. The book progresses from the very basics to more advanced subjects. Basic notation reading skills are required. Without going into a lengthy discussion about the background of rumba, son & other afrocuban genres and their related claves and basic rhythms that are reflected in this book, it is sufficient to say that the notation examples are clear and precise - you will not have any difficulties in reading the notation, as well as listening to the accompanying cd examples. For being able to play, no book will replace practise. But for practise you need good information. This concise book has been written with knowledge and love for afrocuban timba. I recommend it to all bass players and timba enthusiasts who wish to learn more about the connection of modern timba and the traditional rhythms of afrocuban music.

Timba clave? That's rumba clave and bad written!!
There are some issues in the book CUBAN TIMBA: A CONTEMPORARY BASS TECHNIQUE. First, there is no such things as Timba clave.Cuban clave related music is not (usually) written in 4/4, this is a translation from a person that did not grow up in Cuba and/or with bad knowledge about the Cuban clave related music way to write things. To have the entire clave within one bar, let alone called timba clave!!, Wao. Although the tumbaos are cool, etc, the way thing are presented....

Buenos ejercicios.
