The honeycomb is small enough to catch bugs and deflect rocks, but not enough so as to create drag or be too delicate. I cut it to size to fit within the front bumper of my 12 honda fit and zip tied it into place (idea credit to a dude on fitfreak forum) in an effore to protect the a/c condenser. The grill arrived in flat packaging (not rolled up or anything) in good condition with a clean finish. I think this product really fit the bill. UPDATE: been over 3 years. Still shiny black, no dings on my condenser. I used sheet metal sheers to cut my shape, and I'm not too happy with that method due to tendence to bend the mesh.
