Easy to use and accurate, app is better than it used to be
I purchased this almost 2 years ago after having sinus surgery and discovering I have high blood pressure. I wanted something that could be used for more than one person if necessary and a app that would keep track of readings for me. The monitor itself is easy to use and accurate. I've taken my blood pressure before going to a Dr appointment for a recheck and the readings have always been close. Battery Life When I first purchased this, I was taking my BP 3 or 4 times a day for about a month. I have it set to True Read with 15 seconds between readings. That's 9 - 12 readings a day for a month. I eventuallybacked off and just check in the morning before I get out of bed and at night before I go to sleep, so it's now at 6 total readings a day. With this much usage, I find that I have to replace the batteries about every 3 to 4 months. If you don't use True Read or don't check daily, the batteries could easily last for a year or more. Movement and Irregular beat detection I'm not sure I would rely on it to detect something like Afib. I have found that a very slight movement will show as irregular heartbeat and it take quiet a bit of movement to trigger the movement alert. When I first noticed this on readings, I started paying closer attention to what was happening at the time of the reading and more often than not, there was a slight movement in my arm, but there were times where it would show up with no movement. After several occurances with no movement, I decided to discuss with my doctor and have further testing done. This can't replace a trip to the doctor, but it can give you important information to discuss in your visits and may help catch something early. Mobile App The app has come a long way in the last two years. It's advertised as automatically syncing with your device, but I have found that to not be the case. The previous version of the app would never sync unless you opened the app. The latest version will sync without the app open, but it seems pretty random. Sometimes I open it to find that the previous reading has already synced, but most of the time, it hasn't synced since I last opened the app, which has most likely been a few days.

Review & Encouragement
REVIEW The Omron Platinum BP Monitor is registered with the FDA as a medical device and when you receive it you will understand why. It is a precision electronic instrument. Here are some highlights: โข The monitor is heavy duty and finely crafted. โข It has a real BP cuff with a D-ring that allows you to easily get it snug around your arm. โข It has a variety of features, including a 3-take average and an alert for morning hypertension. โข It has a carry case and an AC power supply. โข It has a comprehensive, printed manual. โข It is easy to unpack even if you problems with dexterity. โข It is easy to read the display even if you have less than good vision. In short, this is a device you would expect to see used in professional home health care. You pay more but you get a lot more. If you want something that looks like it should be included with a happy meal, then spend $29.95. But first, ask yourself this. โWhat is my life worth?โ ENCOURAGEMENT High blood pressure is a silent killer that affects about half of the US population, according to best estimates. I did not get one of the best BP monitors you can buy because I have high blood pressure. I got it because I DONโT WANT HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE! And the best way to avoid problems is to watch what your body is doing. I got into taking care of myself back when they laughed and called you a โhealth food nut.โ No one calls me that anymore and my contemporaries stopped laughing a long time ago, those that are still alive. I take no medications and have boundless energy. I just ran 2 miles in the hills yesterday and tonight I will lift weights. I can stand with my legs straight and put my palms flat on the floor. I can balance on one leg and hold the other straight out for more than a minute. I am a lot older than you would guess if you saw me. How did I do it? Simple. Almost no alcohol, tobacco or drug use (I experimented briefly with cigarettes when I was a kid). Eating organic (no additives) and low on the food chain. Drinking bottled water. Protecting myself from chemicals in food and the environment. Reading about health and using good judgment rather than following fads. Exercising vigorously and often. Not letting anyone make me feel like a stick-in-the-mud for being cautious about my health. I may not have a medical degree but I have figured out that taking care of yourself pays off in dividends that are worth more than money. Just ask anyone who is sick. If you have a problem, your doctor is going to advise medication and you should listen to her. But you should also look to your lifestyle and change everything you can to improve your health. Your goal should always be to enjoy good health naturally because medications have side effects and will never completely compensate for a poor diet, inactivity, destructive habits or environmental toxins. I have some regrets in my life, but taking care of myself has never been one of them. I know it is difficult, but ask yourself this question. โWhat is my life worth?โ

Reliable BP machine
Excellent device, which has reliability and accuracy reported by major organizations - look them up. I have purchase 4 of these machines, for use in various settings and with several relatives. All performed well. I have compared them with traditional manual cuffs and even a mercury manometer, with good results. There are several versions of this product, especially the gold and platinum models. We have found the backlit platinum version to be the best for visibility, with the white on black numerals. It is certainly better in low light and for persons with limited vision. I have mentioned elsewhere that any single BP reading will vary to a degree, which is why you need to take several readings and look at the average. That variation also occurs based on the machine, setting and operator. A BP reading taken as soon as you set foot in your physicianโs office, without time to rest, will probably not be as accurate as one taken after you have had time to relax and settle. That is the main benefit of this device, in that you can take your readings in the comfort of your home and bring them with you to your physicianโs office. I have read several articles that report automated BP machines may be more accurate than manual BP machines. This is a little embarrassing, in that after 40 years as a practicing physician, I thought I could take a better BP than any machine. So, I have swallowed my pride and bring a record of my home BP readings on this machine to all my physician visits. You might visit the American Heart Association sites and read their opinions on how to take BP readings. They are enlightening and address some of the more โinterestingโ comments in some reviews.

Calibration is off
There seems to be a calibration issue. I was concerned about it so I took it to my Dr's office and did a test against the nurse's blood pressure readings. The machine was consistently 10 points off on both the systolic and the diastolic. So I have to remember that when I take my blood pressure it isn't quite accurate but does give me a good idea. Other than that, it functions great. It is very easy to set up and use. The cuff fits well around most adults arm. The memory capacity is very high. I do like how it connects to my phone via Bluetooth. Overall it is a good value for this price point.

Easy to Use and Easy to keep track of your history using the App
What I like about this Blood Pressure Monitor is how easy it is to use. You put on the cuff, you press the button, it takes your blood pressure and records it in its memory - Done. If you have the Omron App running on your mobile device and linked to the monitor via BlueTooth, then the App also records the reading and keeps track of your BP history. I selected this model because it includes a power adapter which reduces the load on the batteries. This monitor uses a small air pump to inflate the cuff so I would imagine if I used it without the power adapter, the batteries would soon need replacing (I wish the batteries it that come with the unit were rechargeable). The monitor can track the history for 2 users and to be honest, I haven't spent time looking at my records on the monitor itself, since the reading are uploaded to the App. The App needs a little improving, it doesn't always wait or synch up with the monitor when you run the App while the monitor is turned off. The unit comes with a soft case which is convenient for carrying it around with the cuff and the power adapter. The inflation tube is removable, but I usually leave it plugged in since it still fits in the case while attached and not plugging and unplugging the hose should reduce the risk of an early failure. I've compared my BP reading with this monitor to the one at my doctor's office and the readings are very close. Since BP readings will vary, don't be surprised if you get different readings even a few minutes apart. You can easily lower your Blood Pressure by sitting relaxed for 5 minutes. Don't over tighten the cuff or you may not get the most accurate reading. I would buy this product again and recommend it to my friends. Live long and prosper.

Compare to 10 series model 7450
Over several years, I have found Omron to have a good reputation for accuracy and durability as well as a price that seems to be a bit higher than industry average. They also offer a confusing range of blood pressure monitors ( and other items ). There's the 3 series, the 5 series, the 7 and 10 series, the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum models, the evolve, a do-all EKG model and at least one wrist model. About seven years ago, I started with the 10 series which came with a pre-formed, "comfit" cuff. I recorded my vitals in a journal notebook, averaged the results weekly and transferred the data to a quarterly graph. My doctor loved it. After about two years, I upgraded ( ? ! ? ! ) to the 10 series model BP 786n with Bluetooth, an available AP and again with the "comfit " cuff. The AP may have improved over the years, but, at the time, I was less than impressed with its performance and utility. Nor was I thrilled with Omron's apparent desire for Carte Blanche as to how my personal and medical information was to be used. I have not used Bluetooth or the AP on any of my blood pressure machines but have continued to make manual entries on my graph and in my journals. Recently I had to retire my trusty model BP 786n and purchased a Platinum model BP 5450 which came with a less than ideal fabric carry bag and a wrap-around, D-ring cuff. I found using the new cuff, one handed, to be annoyingly awkward. No problem, I still had my "comfit" cuff. I swapped it out and it seemed to work fine and I was satisfied until I noted in the manual states that cuffs not supplied with each model are " not compatible ". An e-mail from Omron simply stated that the Platinum BP 5450 was designed for use with the D-ring cuff and they couldn't guarantee accuracy if another cuff was used. A phone conversation with a tech added the issue arises from the algorithms used to compute blood pressure. I was also advised that they had a 10 series model BP 7450 which came with the desired " comfit " cuff. Now I have both......... PLATINUM BP 5450 / 10 Series BP 7450 COMPARISON and REVIEW Both machines have the same size, shape, footprint, apparent weight, good accuracy and very much the same functionality. There are a small number of differences. Notably the bezel around the screen on the 10 is black and on the platinum it's silver. The cuffs are as noted. There is one more button on the top right ( next to the "memory" button ) of the platinum and marked with a "sunrise" logo. This gives access, with the "rocker" button, to seven weeks of "morning" averages. The 10 series doesn't have the button or the function. Other buttons are identical. Incidentally, the manual for the platinum was multilingual, the10 series was English only. Set-up and routine use of both machine's are essentially the same; you should get familiar with the buttons as the "set up" will time out if you take too long. The right side of the display is the newest reading, the left side is the previous one. Both machines are noticeably quieter than my old model 786n. They also use batteries significantly faster, probably due to the larger, more complex display. I've made it a point to use the included AC adapter. Both machines have "tru-read" capability where the machine takes three readings at designated intervals then displays the average. For those who believe tru-read takes too long...... reduce the interval or turn off tru-read. I believe it improves accuracy and use it at 30 seconds. I have had an issue with "ghosting" of the display if it isn't viewed within a narrow angle. This may be universal. I have eliminated the ghosts by adjusting my seat height and tilting the machine towards me. All things considered, I couldn't recommend choosing one machine over the other. Both give results which are spot on with expectations. The morning average button or lack of it is up to individual users as is the preferred cuff. I prefer the comfit cuff but I could understand how some might think it stiff and uncomfortable. Some will prefer the wrap around but I find it awkward. I think you've made a good choice if you pick either. Update for information only: For several months I have alternated using both machines as boxed, both machines using only the "comfit" cuff and just the platinum alternating the cuffs. Results are inconclusive as my personal blood pressure is not steady enough to give a reliable base line. However, there is also no clear indication that the comfit cuff shouldn't be used. Readings for both machines using either cuff have been within expected ranges. Things that make you go: Hmmmmmmm. On the underside of both machines are two grooves just above the battery compartment. These grooves are not mentioned nor are they pictured in either manual. I determined that if you take two #14 wood screws ( or similar ) and install them horizontally, at eye level, on a vertical surface about 14mm apart, the monitors may be mounted for almost perfect display. I can't say that this is the grooves intended purpose and I found, for my purposes, such mounting to be unhandy.

Does not meet specification for accuracy - Widely inaccurate! App is terrible, too.
This is the latest generation of OMRON blood pressure monitors, released in 2019. Considering that OMRON is a "brand name" and that this is the latest and the greatest that they can offer, I had high hopes for this monitor. It came nicely packaged, with a soft case, batteries, and a printed manual included in the box. Unlike most consumer goods on this planet, it is not made in China but it Vietnam. I have an elevated blood pressure and decided that I need to monitor it to find the best combination of food, exercise, and natural healing methods to keep it in control without medication. The specification of the monitor, printed in the manual, is: accuracy of measured blood pressure +/- 3 mm Hg, and +/-5% for pulse. This looks great on paper. This means, if your blood pressure is 150, the readings should be within 147 to 153 range. To validate the specified accuracy, I took 9 consecutive measurements, separated by 60 seconds between the end of the previous measurement (when the cuff deflates completely) and the beginning of the new one. I expected my blood pressure to be in the mid-140s range. Here are the 9 readings for my systolic pressure: 161 - 152 - 144 - 164 - 152 - 160 - 146 - 160 - 152 Can anyone tell me what my systolic blood pressure is? If it is 161, I have a serious problem. If it is 144, is elevated, but kind of OK. The range from 144 to 164 is 20 mm Hg. It is not anywhere close to the stated +/-3 mm Hg accuracy. Note, nothing changed in my condition within about 16-18 mins which it took to collect these 9 measurements. I did not remove or readjust the cuff. I was sitting at the same table occupied just with this test. I was just watching the time, pressing the button, and taking measurements. There is no reason to think that my blood pressure would fluctuate that much and so randomly when sit in a relaxed position. The only conclusion that I can make is that this monitor is wildly inaccurate and cannot be trusted. Since it does not meet the spec and cannot be used to make a reasonable conclusion how high my blood pressure it, I consider it not working and sending it back. Looking at other reviews here on this Amazon page, it became clear that I made a mistake and bought a monitor which is consistently inaccurate, as reported by many users. It seems to be not a failing unit which I was lucky to get, but a systemic issue with a poorly designed product. Not that it matters with the monitor so inaccurate that it cannot be used at all, but a few words on overall impression from its features. It has memory for 100 last readings for each of two users, which is nice. The user interface is a little primitive, for today's standards - a touch screen is definitely missing. But on the other hand, liquid crystals display might be more battery-friendly. It would be hard to set up without a manual, but since the manual in included and is very detailed, everything can be set up by pressing a sequence of buttons to set up date and time, and everything works. The platinum version which I got also has the ability of automatically taking 3 measurements and averaging them to improve accuracy. Turning this feature on or off or changing the pause between the measurements through pressing a sequence of buttons is a pain as one has to go through the complete setup process from the very beginning. Another good reason for a lower rating. Given such wild fluctuation of readings in individual measurements, I would not trust the average, although the variability of average is, as expected, lower. OMRON recommends that users install an application "OMRON connect", available for iPhones and Android phones. The app connects to the monitor via Bluetooth. Reportedly, one can quicker set up the monitor via the app, and one can view the history of measurements on the phone. I downloaded the app, but immediately run into a MAJOR RED FLAG when trying to start it - in order to use the app, one has to create an OMRON account, provide some personal health related data (like date of birth, weight, etc.), and agree to receive marketing information. I see absolutely no reason why OMRON should have access to my health information (this company is not my doctor) and why they should have the option of selectively spamming me based on my blood pressure readings. If I had a good level of respect for OMRON based on their "brand name" status, this respect has fallen down the cliff once I saw their app. No wonder, it has 2.1 stars rating on Google. This rating is partly affected by the problem which I outlined above, and partly by poor and unstable connection to the monitor and lack of functionality, reported by many users. Also, users report that most useful features of this app are not free. UPDATE 12/31/2019: I returned the Omron Platinum monitor and purchased a different model, Omron Evolve (also ordered through Amazon) - the price was about the same. Evolve is a single-piece monitor which according to OMRON has more sensors than any other consumer level model. There is no tube which connects the cuff to the unit with pump and display. My hope was that the monitor would be able to detect BP more reliably because its sensors do not need to "listen" to the pulse through the long connecting air pipe. I had a better success with Evolve! Here are 6 consecutive readings for systolic pressure taken with Evolve: 142 - 143 - 148 - 143 - 144 - 146 This fits into +/- 3 mm Hg tolerance and is much more stable. The readings are where I expected them to be. Evolve did not come with a carrying case and the cuff is a little more stiff than that of Omron Platinum, but at least it works for me and gives consistent readings within the specified tolerances.

Excellent BP monitor as most OMRON's are.
UPDATED! I wanted to update my review due to this device CORRECTLY identifying an erratic heart rhythm. So I was taking my husband's BP and this little heart erratic rhythm symbol kept appearing. At first, I suspected that it was just him moving his arm. So as I took the next test, I also monitored his pulse on the other arm. Sure enough, exactly when this device detected a missed beat, I could feel the missed beat too. As it turns out, he was having a reaction to a new medication that the doctors removed him from. The doctors also confirmed the erratic rhythm with ECG. After 24 hours off the meds, his heart returned to normal rhythm and this BP monitor confirmed that too. THIS IS A MUST HAVE! ______________________________ Previous Review Follows ______________________________ We upgraded to the Platinum Model BP5450 mostly for the soft cuff and some of the extra features. Our other machine, which is old but still works fine, had that dang "Formed Cuff" which is a real pain to use, especially on small arms. This soft cuff (I think it's called, D-ring) is basically like the one in the Doctor's office. Easy to put on and doesn't pinch the skin. Some of the features are nice, like the screen showing the previous readings as well as current. We did NOT buy it for the Bluetooth connectivity or its App. I did download it, but the App is not good at all! It's a pain to get working because Omron DEMANDS an account to be made. So, I set up an account, but of course, NO WAY was I putting in my actual identity! NO WAY, NO HOW! What was really annoying too, is that I went to see how it integrates with my Google Fit, but when I saw it pop up wanting my Google account info and making it clear that it will have access to my REAL IDENTIFICATION, again, NO WAY, NO HOW, NU-UHUH! So if you want this for the app, I'd suggest forgetting about that. If you want it because it's a great and seems accurate BP monitor, they yes, I highly recommend it. Omron really does make the best monitors.

OMRON Platinum Blood Pressure Monitor
Great purchase, it's so nice to be able check my blood pressure whenever I want. The monitor is for two users and has a guest feature, so if some it at your home and not feeling well you could check their BP and pulse. Like many reviewers here I too had some difficulty pairing the unit to the app. However I've figured it out. When following the set up instructions user 1 has to set up an account with a verified email address. When pairing the monitor too the app the switch on the monitor has to be set to user 1 and on the app you have select user 1 as well. As long as you do that the pairing should be smooth. For user 2, user 2 will have to have the app on there own phone and set up an account with there own verified email address and when pairing select user 2 on the monitor and user 2 on the app. The OMRON app sync's easily with Apple Health app. Select sharing on apple health app. Select apps then select OMRON connect then turn it on then you can select what you want the OMRON app to write and read on the Apple health app. When I take my blood pressure I open the OMRON app and the Apple health app turn on the BP monitor take my blood pressure and the readings show up instantly on the OMRON app and after a few seconds the readings automatically sync to Apple Health. If you forget to open both apps before you take your BP just open both apps and on the OMRON app top right just tap the little Sync button and within a few seconds both apps are updated. I have location services set to Never on my iPhone for the OMRON connect app and it works perfect. I hope this review will help those having difficulty with the setup

Excellent
Top of the line, easy to use and connect to my iPhone. The readings are consistent. Good product.

Ease of use and recording ability very good. Not sure of accuracy
Easy to use. The True read mode averages three tests. I have found the Diastolic can vary up to 10 mmHg when it takes three tests 15 secs apart. The average value should be helpful and you can go back and see which three tests it used to get that. I chose not to use the Bluetooth app as I did not like the fact that the data is stored in a different country than mine. There are lots of other apps that can be used to manually to store the readings locally. I did find tho that the readings were 10-15 mmHg lower than a 24 hr AMB unit but its still useful in a controlled sit down setting

Great Blood Pressure Monitor
I purchased this model to replace an older and cheaper OMRON BP monitor. This model syncs with my phone, and it is very accurate and reliable. It is easy to use. It has all of the features I need and value. RECOMMENDED
