Quality, and perfect for the vertically challenged
I absolutely love this version of the Sirui am2 series tripods. The 284 is the same as the 254 except it has the thicker studier legs. I was carrying an excellent aluminium tripod for most birding shots, and a tiny carbon one for low down (because the metal one had a centre column) - this setup worked well, but the longer you walk the more you feel the weight. I have replaced both with this tripod. Plus points: - No central column so can be lowered super low - Really sturdy legs so even works with my heavy 450mm lens - Lovely leg release and locks, large and grippy and easy to use - Two sizes of screw included for mounting a head - Comes with the keys and spiked feet Downside: - Only 120cm at highest, but as I am a short a*r$e not an issue for me, i use mostly from sitting postion, and even so once the gimbal is on then a large lens mounted to it, it is more like 145cm to the viewfinder. You can buy a centre column extender which effectively removes this as an issue - Leg hinges are a little stiff to open, but they supply a key to relax them - I prefer stiff so I can carry by the legs

Works as a charm but not all perfect
Pros > value for money > Comes with carry bag and screwable spikes > Extreme low reach, but never extend the legs when low to ground. Added pressure may crack the joints > I am using it with Manfrotto xpro ball head. Works fantastic. > Overall length 16 inch closed and 4’10” fully opened (with ball head). > lightweight…perfect for travel. Cons: > End finish of the tubes are not good. Fibres are rough. Be careful when cleaning. Can cut your hand or loosen fibre may get broken > locks are not sand or dust proof. After photoshoot at the beach had to open all locks and tubes to clean thoroughly. The locking threads catches sand and can ruin the threads.

!!! Spero sia stata un utile recensione !!!! Ciao, Virginio ;)

This is the first small travel tripod I actually like
I have only used them 5 or 6 times, but so far no sand or grit has gotten in even though I have stuck them in mud, sand, and partway underwater. Solid, more so than you would think by the size and price. thankfully NO SHAKY CENTER COLUMN (I cant stand center columns!) they can made great tripods average and average tripods junk. Its easy to unlock all the leg sections with one twist, plenty tall considering how easy they are to pack, haul around strapped to my camera bags. Really happy with these, I was starting to think I was doomed to only use my massive Gitzos. These work great with my Nikon 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 with my Z8 and Mamiya 645, 45mm 2.8, 80mm 1.9, 150mm and are ideal for mid and smallish sized mirrorless cameras... I have shoot with wide angle lenses for several minute exposures and 1/15th-1/30th with the longer lenses and macro.

Amazing Travel Tripod
I own several tripods already, including Gitzo, Velbon, and Leofoto . But I am still very impressed with Sirui AM-284, which is slim, lightweight, and great for travel. Compared to its competitor Leofoto LS-284C, they are very similar in design, specs, and quality. Leofoto LS-284C ranks very high in TheCenterColumn.com's travel tripod rankings while Sirui hasn't been tested by the website. However, based on my own non-scientific test, Sirui seems to be even stiffer than Leofoto, probably due to its larger diameter of its upper two leg sections. This is one of the major reason I picked Sirui in the end. On the other hand, Sirui is slightly bulkier and heavier because of that. Sirui also has bigger rubber ring on its twist locks, which should make them easier to grab with gloves. Its build quality and finish are very good, close to my Gitzo tripods, which is 3 times more expensive. It has a glossy finish on the aluminum parts and the sky blue accent on its angle lock looks beautiful. Overall, this is a great tripod and I really like it.
