You simply cannot lower it since the minimum height is equivalent to the length of the board (41 inches ~ 3 feet 5 inches). I installed it and my petite wife is now ironing on the board that is at her chest high. Too much work to take it out, so I'm now looking for a stool. **Q: How does this fasten to the wall?** A: There are holes ,top/bottom of frame that you screw to door/wall the hold it in place. Very easy if your handy or have someone that is. Very solid when mounted to iron on. **Q: Can I purchase an extra ironing board cover pad for this size board?** A: It comes with its own pad but I didn't notice if other pads were available. I do love my board!!! Out of the way but handy, with more surface space than many others. **Q: Can it be mounted to a door instead of a wall?** A: Yes it can. But I hung mine from the with simple over-the-door hangars. It's slightly wobbly but not enough to hamper my ironing.
