I purchased and installed this item Aug 2023. It failed to charge my Yamaha golf cart battery above 11.8V while under load, Nov 2023 (3 months use). I removed it and disassembled it. The brushes were 80% worn. The armature bronze surface that the brushes wear on was worn down excessively. A severe depression was worn into the bronze surface. The armature installed in this unit was definitely not new when installed. These units are crap. The low price is not worth buying. Stay away.

You have to flip the red/green wires at the connector for this to work. I have no idea why it came from the factory backwards. Use a pick to undo the connectors on the generator side and flip them. An easy but dumb that we have to do it fix.

Customer service was very good. At 1st my reply was it was out of warranty. It was in fact 14 days out of warranty when i cantacted the company, but it failed prior to the contact date and diagnosing the generator was the actual problem. Thru corrospondence they honored my warranty. They did the right thing. Will buy again.

I'm very thorough when it comes to buying and generally spend a lot of time researching my purchases. I read reviews, compare, check multiple sources, etc. I'm not sure what happened with this one, but after going back and reading the reviews I see multiple people with the same issue as me. This product starts, but doesn't generate. My gas powered Yamaha G16 will start fine for a week or two and then the battery is dead. I thought maybe my battery was the issue, so I bought a brand new one. Same exact thing. I hooked up the multimeter and sure enough, the starter/generator is only putting out 12.0-12.2 volts, sometimes dropping to 11.8 It's obviously not going to keep the battery charged and now i'm forced to put a manually charger on my cart about once a week. It's a huge inconvenience and always leaves doubt in my mind when we venture out for a ride. I now carry a jump-start pack in the cart all the time as I got stranded about a 1/2 mile from my house with a 5 year old & 18 month old and had to carry them back and leave the cart behind. I'm contacting the manufacturer about warranty, but no response yet.
