This touches on every aspect of the other side, knowing your loved one is always close by. Love this book! Have bought for many people as gifts.

This book mentions something that my mother said before she passed away!
I won't go into much detail about the book because I want you to make your own opinion. HOWEVER, I have read quite a few negative reviews about it on here and all of them say pretty much the same thing. Prove it to me, or how can you believe it,etc... There's one portion of the book that John speaks of about how Heaven is made up of levels. Well, the night before my mother passed we were sitting down in her kitchen looking at office supplies for her new business. Now mind you my mother was very religious and did not ever read or dabble into this type of thing. She ONLY read the Bible. Well... out of no where, she said, "Would you like to know where we go when we die? Cuz I know now..". Chilling isn't it?... Yeh.. Once I read this book and saw that he said the SAME THING I was baffled and of course then I started crying my head off! I felt comforted and then again mad because my mother knew she was going to die and decided not to tell me. My mother died the next morning of a double brain anurism (spelling???). No one knew she was even ill. Now I also, know the answer to the question do Angels or people come for you? I believe that the answer is yes. I also, believe a lot of what the Bible states is symbolism and should not be taken literally. Remember, humans still WROTE the Bible with their hands, not God. God merely dictated to them what to write. No weather they wrote it down properly we won't know till we too are on the other side. This book helps you realize that the most important thing in life is to live every day to the fullest and to treat everyone as kindly as you can. That is living a beautiful and fullfilling life. :)

loved it!
It totally resonated with me and other spiritual books that I have read. It reminded who I truly am - and the god spirit of which we are all a part. It’s a beautiful book.

I wanted to like this book, but...
The question still is open as to how legit a medium this author is, although he seems highly confident of himself, there is much pro and con information to be found regarding his credibility. Being well known isn't the same as being legitimate. He does seem to have a well developed sensitivity and quite the confident imagination, but upon a complete reading of this book, I am highly disappointed due to his strong biases that pollute so much of what he writes. He doesn't even seem to be aware of it. When bias is presented as fact, the author loses credibility. He opposes anyone being judgmental, yet he is judgemental. His version of how things go upon death puts both murderers and their victims (even children) in closely related purgatory hells along with other innocent suffering adults and children. Per his system, you'd better live a very normal, main stream life and die as our western culture dictates (hooked up to life sustaining machines and drugs in an ICU) until even that tortuous environment cannot keep your heart beating or else you also end up in this same purgatory hell for an amount of time you have no control over, as it's based on your age at death vs. the age you would have died without some surprise or distressing event that killed you early. He sees all life forms as being God, yet we can so easily end up in some horribly depressing place after death or in some kind of compassionate mental ward or even the best outcome, living a life so very close to what one had on earth that some people don't recognise that they are dead. If everything goes perfectly and as pre planned for you on earth, you at least won't be physically ill and can go about your day in "heaven"...except, and it's a big one, you may not be with your loved ones unless they are on the same spiritual level you are. If you aren't the same level, well, they can drop down to your level for a visit, but you are prohibited from stepping up to their level for even a quick visit. All this sounds like no perfect, ideal, all knowing God lifestyle heaven that we supposedly are from the onset of our spirits. There is so much that is contradictory in this author's view of his facts that I have to toss all of it being unable to discriminate what might be valid and what is just from his biased, conservative, strongly Christian based view on life. I give one star for the final part of the book about meditations and help for survivors of loved ones who have passed. The meditations and general compassionate tone could be helpful to many.

A fast, fascinating read that never got boring
I'm very interested in this subject, and I believe in it, but said, I do NOT begin to believe every one who calls themselves a psychic medium. Not even close. This book was recommended to me and I found it fascinating. Van Praagh covers a lot of ground and in these chapters, he answered many questions that I've always had floating around in my mind. He's one of a handful of psychic mediums who I have a great deal of respect for. This book isn't bogged done with a lot of boring detail … not even close. I am easily distracted, yet every time I picked this book up, I didn't want to put it down. Definitely recommended if this is in your area of interest.

Fairly Interesting Book
I havn't completely read this book yet but what I have read was pretty interesting. I read the more recent book 'Heaven and Earth' first and I was a little dissapointed that there was a lot of the same stuff in both books, there was an awful lot of stuff that was written in 'Heaven and Earth' that was also covered in 'Talking To Heaven'. I really enjoyed his case studies and experiences with clients, more of that would be good. Also I was pleased to see some pretty good coverage on suicide in this book which wasn't covered in 'Heaven and Earth' I would have liked more. It would have been really interesting to see his feedback from experiences with evil spirits aswell. Overall interesting book, but like I said I havn't read it cover to cover I kinda read bits and got abit bored with the repetitive nature of both books.I do think his philosophys on life after death sound extremely accurate and whether they are true or not, they sound a lot better than any other life after death philosophy that I have encountered.

I recommend this book to all my friends and reiki clients!!
I was inconsolable when my dearest friend and soulmate crossed over in 2001 until a few days later I was guided to James Van Praagh's "Talking to Heaven". I was instantly uplifted and I couldn't put the book down! I read it from cover to cover and my heart and soul were lifted with each word and each reading that James shared in the book. I learnt from James' book that my dearest friend was still alive (which I knew anyway but James' just brought it to reality with the reading) and that he wasn't hurting, was happy and fully healthy again and most importantly was around me and that I could talk with him whenever I wanted and didn't need to go to his grave! My pain lifted from reading James' book and now I regularly watch his shows on UK Living and relive the joy of the readings of our beloved who have crossed over and each time there is an animal reading, I rejoice as my beloved friend and companion was my pet cat of 14 years and as a cat parent, was my first baby boy.As a reiki healer I recommend to all my patients who have lost loved ones to read James' book to gain the consolation and comfort that I personally gained as to me, it's the best tonic there is to a broken heart from losing our loves ones.Talking to Heaven starts off with James' life and how he got into mediumship and then it shares lots of detailed different readings of those who have crossed over (this part I cherished the most to hear how those that have crossed felt at their time of departure and how they feel now and how they're OK (which was so important to me); and I loved it that there were animal reading as well!James ends with sharing a few chapters on grieving, talking to the other side etc.Blessings

Very helpful book to understanding that we are never alone
I love this book. In fact, I have boughtTalking to Heaven" quite a few times. The reason that I have bought it multiple times is when a friend is going through a hard time after loosing a loved one, I give them my copy and buy it again.James explains everything about communicating with our loved ones in spirit and that we are never alone in this book. It is very comforting to all that are grieving. Highly recommended.
