High Hopes, Low Skill
I spent 25k on a '69 fj40 that sorta runs. I am a tennis coach though, not a mechanic and therefore could have thought this through a little better. Anyway, the book is, as all Haynes Repair Manuals are, super comprehensive. Makes for a nice conversation piece on my bookshelf.

Hayes manuals good for backyard mechanics
As usual Haynes has put together a great manual. Helped me out a lot when doing a rebuild. More manuals available over the parts counter (other than the ones listed on the website). If they dont have it at the store, they should be able to order it for you. Even the simple task of changing your engine-alternator belt (serpentine belt for most newer vehicles) when properly illustrated and followed will make the task easy for most backyard mechanics. A savings of at least $70 compared to going to a car shop - if you dont mind getting yourself a little dirty. let me tell you this is the the 1st thing u need to buy after you buy your car....(before insurance or licence plates!!) these manuls are great and have saved a jobber like me $1000's over the years!!!

Poor printing. Pages 145-160 are upside-down and in reverse order. Some pages are off center.

Under the Bonnet
You can't judge a book by it's cover so they say, well you can with this! It is the Haynes workshop manual for a Toyota FJ40 so if you have a truck like this and you want to get your hands greasy then this is the book for you. Mind you, if you do have a FJ40 or BJ40 then no dealer will touch it with a barge-pole and the parts will have to be flown in from the US or Oz so you will need to do everything yourself, unless your surname is Rockafellar/Cowell/Windsor. It doesn't tell you the basics so you will need some experience of motor mechanics before you start. On second thoughts just buy a Land Rover....
