Great for backpacking!
Bought this for my regular backpacking trips. and it fits EVERYTHING. For anything that doesn't fit inside the pack, there are several pockets and straps where you can attach a variety of itemsUpdate (January 2016): I have used this backpack on multiple hiking excursions and it has stood the test of time and the abuse it goes through when on the trail. Its handy storage compartments near the waist are perfect for keeping knives and snacks for when you are hiking, so you don't have to stop, unstrap, and open the contents of the backpack.

Took this pack to Havasu Falls
Update here -I took this pack on a overnight backpack trip so I had the pack maxed out. What happened is that there was enough stuff in it that the air gap between the metal frame/pack & my back was maxed out so that I had the metal shoved into my back. Back is still sore... And like I mentioned, its small for a 45 L pack. Something to think about if you want to put a sleeping bag/tent/stove/etc. etc.Bought this pack for a trip to Havasu Falls. In total I have about 40 miles hiking with the pack over the last 3 months. There are some things I like about this pack and some I don't.Likes- it's comfortable. Most of the time I had about 10 lbs in the pack and it was very comfortable.- The top cover has two zippered encloses - one on the outside and one on the inside (they share the same space separated by the cover. I could keep the super important stuff zipped up in the inside lid and the important stuff accessible in the outside one.- When you cinch down all of the adjustment straps when the pack isn't completely full it really compresses the pack down - so nothing is shaking around when you use it partially full.- I does come with a rain cover - fortunately for me I never have tried it out yet.- the metal frame in the pack that keeps the pack off your back and air flowing through the pack works well.- During the short time I've had it no frays, stitching, worn out holes in the fabric, nothing has come undone. Not so likes (not hate, just observations)- Personal - The red with the neon green - not my favorite at all. Yes I realize I picked it out but I would of preferred another color but they were out.- There is no hydration pack support - AND there is only a single water bottle holder on the right side. And when you have the pack on you can't reach the water bottle and it fell out of the pack anytime I bent over.- Its small for a 40L pack. I compared it to three other packs that were 40 & 45L and its on the smallish side - just an FYI- the strap in the front that pulls together the two vertical shoulder straps in kinda on the short side. I'm a 16 32/33 shirt and I had to slide the strap all the way to the top so it wouldn't pull too tight. It does have an elastic portion of the strap which is good - and thank god it is adjustable vertically (it can slide up and down on the vertical shoulder straps. If it was like 2 inches longer that would of been nice)- there are two side pockets on both sides of the pack. one will give you access to the bottom of the pack - which is nice, the other is a separate pouch. The problem with this pouch is that if you load the pack up, it basically uses up all of the space for this pouch - its fighting for space with the inside of the pack - so for my use it was kinda unless.- The two pouches on the waist straps are small. They will hold a clift bar and chap stick. That's it. No modern cel phones are gonna fit. (The cel phone went in the top cover pack)- I wouldn't use this for a school/day to day back pack. Too many straps flapping around to get dirty and while the stuff sack closing on the top is great for camping, IMHO its not good for school/day to day use.In summary -I wouldn't necessarily buy this pack again. There are so many choices in packs on Amazon that making a decision is hard. I would of liked to see/hold the pack in person first before buying.

Great back pack
Great back pack. Sturdy and worked well on my Guatrmala trip. I do have to say it is smaller than expected.
