No it’s only the top layer so it’s safer for a baby, no worrying about poking the baby with a pin while trying to get the diaper on

How do you wash these? By hand? Every time they get wet, do you have to hand-wash them in the sink?

I guess you could wash them in the sink. You wouldn't want to put them in the washer because of the "teeth" ruining other items. I don't wash them every time. I'd say weekly is plenty....
