Review: Nice fan with a couple of flaws - Good: Clean, attractive, contemporary look. Reversible blades look good on both sides. Quiet; barely audible even in a quiet room. Well-balanced out of the box; a tiny wobble on high speed, nothing at all on low or medium. Relatively easy to install, with one caveat (see below). I thought the remote control frivolous, but it turns out that the lack of pull-chains is nice. (And hardwired switch-box controls are surprisingly hard to find and to make work well.) LED bulbs and remote batteries included. ETL listed and lifetime warranty. Bad: $65 premium for the pewter finish, no idea why. Makes this fan rather expensive for what you get. The wireless receiver / motor control sits in a slot in the mounting bracket, which is fine unless your electrical box is shallow and/or crowded (mine is both,) in which case the receiver box BARELY leaves room for the power connections. Extending the bracket another inch, or widening the canopy a little to let the receiver sit to one side of the bracket, would have made installation a breeze. As it was, I had to do some serious juggling to get everything to fit. Ugly: Once installed and powered up, every fan and light function can be controlled with the remote. Except one. For reasons which still mystify me, reversing the fan direction involves not only a physical switch on the fan, but a switch *behind the lamp cover*. Now, granted, most people reverse the fan only twice per year, if at all. But if you do, you get to go up a ladder and remove and replace a rather awkward and delicate glass globe to throw that switch. I'd put the over/under on the glass slipping out of my hands and taking a seven-foot plunge during one of these switchovers at about five years. I'm not an engineer, but I see no excuse at all for this. At least one of the eight remote control buttons is frivolous (and i could argue two more;) was it really *that* difficult to add that function to the remote? Would have simplified the lamp wiring quite a bit too. Bottom line: Aside from the above, I'm impressed with this fan. Looks good, performs well, looks like it'll continue to do so for a long time. But I'm not going to reverse the fan unless I absolutely have to. Five stars, but it was a very close thing; the high price and that hidden reverse switch very nearly cost it that fifth star.
Review: Great function, beautiful, and easy to install - I purchased this ceiling fan for my son's bedroom. It is an excellent size for an average size bedroom. I like that the fan is compact to the ceiling, so it can be effective in rooms with 8 ft ceilings. It is very quiet while running and can really move some air. The breeze and home features are nice to have, but rarely used. I like that the light is dimmable (just hold the light button on the remote and the light will cycle from dim to bright, just let go of the button when you hit the desired level). Installation is a breeze and fairly straightforward (keeping in mind I have installed 5 ceiling fans with remotes previously). The main headache with installing fans that have remotes is getting the receiver unit all tucked away inside the fan body as there is usually very little room for the unit and the connected wires. This fan was one of the easiest in that regard and I had it installed in about 45 minutes. My only minor gripe lies with the remote. It is fully functioned allowing you to control all aspects of the fan, however the light on / light off button is the same size and shape as all the other buttons and can be hard to locate with your finger when entering the dark room and wanting to turn on the light. If that button were raised slightly, or had some different texturing it would be easier to locate the button when needed. Again, a minor gripe for what is overall an excellent and great looking fan.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How far does this hang from the ceiling in the closemount installation? We have a low ceiling in our bedroom.**
A: First, ignore the printed instructions that come with fan on Page 5 that suggest "Flushmount Installation - not available for this model." In fact, it can be flush mounted per the .pdf manual's "CLOSEMOUNT INSTRUCTIONS" on Page 10 (which you can download from either Honeywell or Amazon). As noted by two others who apparently did the installation correctly, the close mount leaves the bottom of the light's globe at just 9.5" from the ceiling. The blades are roughly 5" from the ceiling.

Also note that the .pdf version of the installation manual is from June 4, 2014 and it lists a 'red' hot/power wire coming from the receiver — ignore that as it is correctly BLACK. The printed version that comes with the fan is dated May 21, 2020. While it incorrectly states that you cannot flush mount the unit (again, see the .pdf version), it does have the correct update for the remote control.

You'll also note that the light bulb arrangement is different than suggested in the Amazon listing. Instead of three candelabra based bulbs it has two tiny standard (A19) based bulbs. The lighting is 'dim' to say the least. The problem is that these are physically small sized bulbs (think appliance bulb). I'm hunting for alternatives that are brighter.

All said, the installation was rather straightforward. Besides the dim bulbs, the fan does make a noticeable noise which is rather disappointing. One gets what one pays for.

**Q: What is the actual height from the ceiling to the bottom of the light**
A: It is 11"

**Q: Says it has a dimmer but the picture of the remote looks like it’s just an on off. Please explain.?**
A: I just installed this yesterday 6/24/20. My remote dims the light by holding the light button down. It slowly dims and then slowly goes to full bright.

**Q: Where do you put the remote control brain? The unit does not fit it the top ceiling cap.**
A: It barely fits under the top ceiling cap but it fits. I suggest you connect the house wires and all ground wires before hanging the fan. The brain fits snugly on top of the hanging bracket. Your question is appropriate since the instructions are inadequate.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful Fan, Installation Was a Challenge
*by A***A on November 15, 2025*

The Honeywell Carmel 48” Ceiling Fan looks beautiful in our space, but I’ll admit the installation was more complicated than we expected — there were definitely a lot of parts to sort through. That said, once we got it put together, we could tell how well thought out the design is. The fan runs quietly, the airflow is great, and the remote is super convenient. One thing I really appreciate is that it came with warm LED lights, which can be surprisingly hard to find. Overall, despite the tricky installation, it’s a stylish, functional fan that we’re happy with.
