Snark SN6 Clip-On Ukulele Tuner (Black)

The Snark SN6 Tuner is so darn convenient and easy to use. Why have I used anything else? I have the usual small box tuner for my acoustics and a pedal tuner for my electrics. This tuner works so well that I wonder why one would want to use anything else. Well, there is one small caveat. So read on, McDuff. This nifty little tuner fits tightly on to the headstock of my tenor and baritone ukuleles as well as my 50 year old 6- string Kay acoustic and hefty resonator guitar. It tunes them all without busting a gut. Being a chromatic tuner allows it to work with non-standard tunings as well. This means the tuner will read any note you play. The tuner uses a high sensitivity piezo sensor for tuning. A vibration sensor built into the tuner device sends the instrument vibrations to the tuning circuitry. No microphone onboard means the tuner is immune to background noise, so you can tune your instrument in noisy environments and/or while other musicians are tuning. -- SN6 Stats -------------------------------------------------- :: Battery Type: (1) CR2032 (3v) [Included] :: Body Diameter: 1-5/8 inch :: LED Readout Diameter: 1-1/4 inch :: Weight: 0.2 ounces There is a ‘Power Save Feature’. The tuner will dim after 5 seconds of no sound and the display will return to the normal brightness when a note is detected. If a note is not detected for 2 minutes the tuner will shut off completely. A nice touch. This tuner uses two ball joints; one at the back of the LCD body and one on the clamp. This allows the LCD body readout to be moved and swiveled around 360 degrees for your convenience. Whether you place your tuner on top of your head stock or underneath the headstock you can still see the tuner. NOTE 1: With regard to instrument finishes it is not recommended by Snark to leave the clip-on tuner attached to the instrument longer than needed. The rubber pad on the bottom of the clamp could affect the finish. Snark advises NOT to use its tuner with any instruments having these finishes: “Nitrocellulose Lacquer, French Polish, Oil Finish, Polyurethane, or Gibson Guitars”. For those types of finishes they recommend a pedal tuner instead of a clip-on to avoid any unfortunate finish problems. NOTE 2: The Tuner occasionally runs a “self-test” to make sure its functions are working. The self-test happens when it is first turned on and only lasts a few seconds so don’t get concerned if you see an unusual event after you power up. It will settle down quickly. So, I heartedly give 5 huge stars for this simple easy to use portable tuner and its storage bag. It truly is a most flexible tuner. Why its branded as a 'Uklulele' tuner is beyond me. This is great for fine-tuning your uke/guitar after rest periods and during play. But it won't help you with the initial tuning. Since it doesn't play a sound, you'll need an app or website or keyboard that plays the note so you can hear it, and initially get the string to the right octave and note. But once initially tuned to the right octave, and assuming you know what note each string is supposed to play, this will let you fine-tune each string to the perfect pitch. Uke's need constant fine-tuning, and this is perfect. High quality, and inexpensive enough that I recommend it rather than using a free tuning app on your phone or computer constantly (or using another instrument to tune with). It's small and unobtrusive, so you can leave it clipped on during play, or stick it in your pocket. The rubber clamps won't damage the finish on your instrument. So once your uke is initially tuned right (use a site like ukutuner.com or a phone app), this is a great way to help you keep it perfectly in tune, since tuning is a constant necessity (and with new strings will be necessary every few seconds). This gadget makes it less of a chore, and keeps you sounding good. And it's kinda fun, because it hears your voice as well, and tells you how out of tune you are! Haven't tried it with my guitar yet, but in theory it should work equally well. Paid full price, did not receive a discount for this review.

For someone that is new to string instruments and has no clue how something should be tuned properly by ear, a reliable tuner was a must have for me when I bought a Ukelele. Out of the box, it only took me about 5 minutes to get all four strings tuned and sounding good (I think), and the tuner is really simple to use. (I used a piece of tape on the back of the tuner to write down what the four strings should be tuned to so I could easily remember when I was first starting out.) My friends have since used it to tune as well, and they all say that it is really accurate and make tuning much easier than doing it by ear. If you need a good inexpensive tuner, I would highly recommend this one, especially if you are a beginner like myself. I've had it for a few months now and it is still working just fine.

I've been very pleased with this tuner. I've only had it for a day, but I've used it on the head stocks of both a banjo and a guitar, and it locked on to the pitches quickly on both instruments. I've used some tuners that jump around between a note and its overtones, or that hop over to the pitches of adjacent strings, but the Snark SN6 locks onto pitch right away, with fairly soft picking, and with no difficulties from conversations happening in the room. It also easily reports the root note of chords if I play whole chords. I haven't yet tried it in a group setting while other people are tuning other instruments at the same time. The display is large enough to read easily at the end of a guitar or banjo neck. There are two ball joints between the tuner head and the clip, which makes it easy to adjust the head into an easy to read position. The note names are large enough for me to read from 10 ft away, and the display is bright enough to read in a dark room, or around a campfire. The color scheme (red=flat, yellow=sharp, blue/green = in tune) also makes it very quick and easy to gauge where you are, pitchwise. The 25, and 50 cent marks are boldly marked. It looks like there are 12 equal divisions from in-tune to +50, and likewise on the flat side. If you use a tuning scheme where you purposely tune some stings sharp or flat by a set number of cents so that the instrument will settle into pitch properly, it might take some experimentation to find the correspondence between your numerical scheme and the appearance of the display that gives you the best results.

When buying a new instrument I always look at the basic stuff that you need with any instrument. With guitars, basses or any other stringed instruments a decent tuner is always at the top of my list. But I'm a poor student so cost always plays a factor. When I came across this tuner, I was a little skeptical. Price was pretty low compared to some other tuners and some of the reviews brought up some pretty compelling points. So far though, I honestly don't have too many complaints. For the price, you pretty much get what you pay for. Construction does feel a bit weak though. The plastic on the clip side of the arm feels almost like you could snap it off if you push it far enough and the clip itself does lose a bit of it's tension over time. Which is to be expected. Other than this little concern though it's really not that bad. I usually keep the tuner clipped on to the head of my uke even when I put it in the bag when I'm traveling (moving it outside of my house) and so far over the last few weeks it's stayed in place pretty well. As far as operation goes, it seems to work as well as any other tuner would at this price range. I've done a direct comparison between manually tuning and using this to tune and it's about as good as it gets as you would expect at a beginner's level. For an experienced player, I'm sure you'd want to opt for a tuner with slightly better construction and at a slightly higher price range of course. But this is a good entry level tuner for an entry level uke and player.

This tuner works very well not only for my daughter's ukulele and mandolin, but also for our acoustic guitars and banjo. I love the small form and accuracy, but most of all, the easy-to-see display. I don't have to strain my eyes to know to see if I need to tune higher or lower, because the red color shows for too low, yellow for too high, and green for just right (in tune). This is especially helpful when I'm trying to do alternative tuning, which I will never learn by ear. The gripper rubber has stayed on well, the clipping action has never lost its strength, and it is my favorite tuner we've had thus far for our stringed instruments tuning needs. After having this a couple of years, it's now time to replace the battery, (CR2032 Lithium 3 volt), but after comparing the cost of a package of 4 batteries and a new tuner, I'm debating just getting another tuner and get a pack of batteries later for the one we currently have and getting more batteries later. Anyway, I love this little tuner, it's small, accurate, easy-to-see and reliable. Thanks for reading!

I'm a beginner ukulele player and I was having a hard time keeping my uke in tune. I used YouTube to tune my strings, but since my uke is so new, it needs a ton of tuning (while the strings stretch.) This was a real struggle! My tuning time was cut down substantially and I finally got to hear what my uke should sound like! It can be very discouraging for beginners to be practicing out of tune. It's very important to have a well tuned uke, especially when you're first learning. So easy to use and I love the price! The directions that come with it are terrible, and I did have to look up where I was supposed to clamp it. Once I figured that out however it was smooth strumming. I would HIGHLY recommend this easy tuner for anyone. It's intuitive to use and works great.

Anyone who cares to take the time to look at my other reviews will see that I am not fond of the Snark displays. I prefer the "needle" type because it's symmetric above and below center while the Snark has red turning off when flat and gold turning on when sharp. However, that's me and YMMV, as they say on the Internet. Don't ask, then, why I got a SN-6. I don't smoke, drink, or womanize, the unit is cheap, the money's got to go somewhere, and I like to play with accessories. I am fond of saying that it doesn't matter which type of tuner you use because they've pretty much become a commodity. They all tune well with the same accuracy, so it comes down to looks and price. Well, that's not *quite* true. Some models suffer fits in certain situations. The rapid fall of the old Intellitouch was, in my mind, not due to price as much as its inability to deal with the low E string on a Martin dreadnought. A web search will reveal countless workarounds. I (and the rest of the world, apparently) buy a tuner to tune, not work around. Lately, I've become enamored of the Kala KA-UBASSFS Solid Mahogany U-BASS - Fretted . If you want a tuning challenge, the low bass E string is it. The SN-6 hardly hiccups. Other tuners seem to do "okay" but require a little coaxing. Not the SN-6! That's 5 stars in my book!

El afinador es excelente, el tamaño es muy pequeño y el diseño es mejor de lo que esperaba, afina perfectamente guitarras, violines y ukuleles, el pedido llegó en perfectas condiciones al día siguiente, el afinador trae batería incluida. Si buscan un afinador de guitarra a buen pecio y de calidad, sin duda es una buena opción.

Rapporto qualità prezzo imbattibile, peccato non includa il metronomo. Se proprio devo trovare una pecca, non permette di distinguere tra note appartenenti ad ottave diverse (poco utile anche quando si cambiano le corde, però nice-to.have). Lo uso regolarmente tutti i giorni, nessun problema.

Ich habe mir dieses Stimmgerät für meine Ukulelen gekauft, weil ich mit meinen bisherigen Klemm-Stimmgeräten nur mäßig zufrieden war. Und bin von dem Snark bisher voll überzeugt. Es scheint mir sehr viel genauer zu sein als meine anderen Geräte, die Anzeige ist ungewöhnlich groß und einfach abzulesen. Der Griff hat einigen Druck und ist ziemlich rutschsicher. Die Handhabung ist sehr einfach (ich habe auch schon Geräte erlebt, mit denen ich so gar nicht klar kam). Es gibt aber auch einen Nachteil: Das Batterie-"Fach". Es gibt keins! Die Batterie sitzt mitten im Gerät und wird in eine Art KLammer gelegt, die dann in das Gerät geschoben wird. Sollte jemand auf die Idee kommen, die Batterie direkt einzuschieben, funktioniert das auch tadellos. Die Batterie ist dann allerdings nur noch sehr mühselig und mit viel Geduld wieder herauszukriegen. Also immer mit der beiliegenden Klammer verwenden! Dennoch ist es im Moment mein bevorzugtes Stimmgerät.
