would this work on tents? would it stand up to abraision and hard use

No, this is not meant for tents. It does not last through continued use. Any abrasion will cause this to come off.

Would you be able to use this on metal and fabric parts of an outdoor patio set? Looking for some extra protection in the winter.

This product does not hold up to wear, with that being said you can apply it to fabric, but do not plan on getting a lot of use out of it before it starts to rub off. This also has a residue that you might not like feeling against your skin or clothes.

Can it be used on painted wood?

Yes, I used is successfully on painted wood.

With this work on a new vinyl convertible top?

Do not use this on a convertible top. There are other products specifically made for that.
