Definitly not the standard we were used to.
This season more than ever you could see the "woke" agenda seeping into the narrative. weak storylines seemed shoehorned in to make certain people happy. The same old tired cliches denegrating some, whilst placing others on pedastals.Women characters were elevated in stature while the males either became idiots or villains. Basically a precursor to the "Woke agenda" that ruined entertainment and happily we see dying today. All in all, it was still a great series and I'm glad it wasn't continued with the woke ideology.

What can you say, it's Poldark, or most of it anyway...
I've been a Poldark fan since the original series with Ross Ellis, Angharad Reese etc in the '70s, I just absolutely love Poldark and I literally don't like any other TV or movie drama, period! No pun there btw. And I've liked these recent series of Poldark also, they've done a great job especially considering they've got a lot to live up to. So now about this 5th season, I really have tried to like it, actually it's not bad. But there was always something about it, something different, something bugging me, and I couldn't place my finger on it! Then finally on the very last chapter on the last disc, I was watching it and it just really got to me. And I had to do it, I Googled "Poldark 5th season", and I studied everything I could find especially by the producers themselves, and discovered what had been bugging me all along - THIS POLDARK 5TH SEASON WAS NOT WRITTEN BY WINSTON GRAHAM!! Holy cow what a revelation! And just somehow I knew it all along, and it was bugging me! The real character of the Poldark lineage just really ain't there, because Winston wasn't the author! Maybe it takes a real Poldark lover/enthusiast to understand and sniff that out, and that's me, because I could smell it. But having said this, would I recommend this 5th season Poldark? Did I like it myself? Well, for purists it doesn't quite feel the same somehow, we can tell, or I can anyway, I knew. BUT, I would say it's still good, and some might not mind at all, or feel any difference in the drama, even though I could. So it may be perfect for some, and maybe not for others, that's hard to say. And I will say this, even though it "feels" different than the Winston Graham originals, one thing is obvious while watching, especially towards the finale - this author who wrote it absolutely loves Poldark herself, the way she wrote especially the ending, it's very clear. That itself is very nice to see, even if she's not the same writer as Winston.

Season 5—The creation of the writers—just not Winston Graham
I love this series, and the acting has been wonderful, but season 5 is different than the last 4. Winston Graham left a 10 year gap between books at this point, and never explained what happened to the characters over the missing 10 years. This a a conjecture of what may have happened during those 10 years. Some viewers liked this season, while others didn’t like the fact that they stepped away from Graham’s books. My feeling is that it was ‘OK’, but not as good as the first 4 seasons. the finale had some very touching moments, especially the moment between Rev. Hulse (Robin Ellis, the original ‘Ross’ from the 70s series) and Ross (Aidan Turner, the new Ross). Kind of a nod of approval & friendship between these two wonderful actors. You need to decide if you like this season for yourself.

The Conclusion of an Epic Drama
The early twenty-first century has been described as a new golden age for television, and "Poldark" certainly helped make it so. Aidan Turner stars as Ross Poldark, a Cornishman who returned from fighting for England in the American Revolutionary War to make a life in his native land. This DVD set contains all eight episodes of the fifth and final season of the series that were originally aired on the BBC in the summer of 2019 and on PBS in the fall of that year.In the final season, the story moves to the first years of the nineteenth century. As a member of Parliament Ross joins the antislavery movement and continues his longstanding rivalry with George Warleggan (Jack Farthing). The season touches on several societal issues that were grappled with in that age, including literacy, slavery, child labor, treatment of the insane, the introduction of paper money, poverty and social mobility, the move away from cruel and unusual punishment, and ethics in medical experiments. The writing and cinematography are once again superb, and there are several edge-of-your-seat moments that lead to the satisfying conclusion of the series. There are numerous good bonus features on this DVD set. I cannot recommend "Poldark" more highly to fans of historical drama.

Season 5 Poldark
I have bought all five seasons of Poldark on DVD and they have all been delivered in mint condition as described. This series is top quality and so are the DVD's. Mine have all worked great and I love all the bonus material and packaging. This is a top notch series and I love having these to watch over and over again. I have turned on so many friends and family on to this series an I amd just sad they had to stop at season 5. I know they followed the books pretty close and there was another Poldark series in the 1970's but this series is just so good! The directing, writing, set decorations, location, music, acting and costumes are fantastic spot on A+ on every element of this series. These dvd's are excellent quality and you will enjoy them so much. I won't spoil you with the plots in case you are a newbie and I don't care if we all have DVR's and online streaming I still like having my DVD's and real books besides all this techie new stuff. This series is a gold mine!

a great wrap up to the series
The whole series was filmed to reveal the beauty of the coast of Cornwall. It was accurately set against the backdrop of late 18th C Britain. We see the workings of Parliament as well as the Cornish coastal tin and copper mines. The vast chasm between the privileged wealthy class and the poor working miners and fisherman. Added to the breadth of the saga, was romance and betrayal. In time we will revisit the whole series again.

We loved the first 4 seasons of Poldark BUT .....Season 5 not so much.
Sadly, after our anticipation of what we had hoped would be another wonderful 8 episodes of Poldark, we have been greatly disappointed. It is as if there was a new writer ( which is not the case) or a different director for this final season. The plots are disjointed ... things happen that make little sense or for no apparent reason and suddenly end without complete resolutions.Very disappointing.

Complete Fabrications...
This season bears no resemblance to the stories in the books. And completely fabricated characters become forefront characters, and the 'real' characters become pushed into the background. If I had known I wouldn't have bought this and stopped after season four. I just feel very unhappy about this.

Wondering if these DVDs are pirated?
Terrible quality on these DVDs. I was so excited to watch the final season of Poldark only to find out that that 2 out of 3 Discs would not play on my DVD player. My DVD player has no difficulty playing any other movie or TV series DVDs which makes me question the quality and authenticity of this product. I had to see the end of this fantastic series, so I spent more money downloading the last season on Apple TV. Wish I had done that in the first place and hadn’t wasted my money on this poor quality DVD set. I strongly suspect this is not an original Masterpiece Theatre product.

A Great Series set in the beautiful historic Cornwal UK
As this series was showing Cornwall at a time early 1700's when my family lived there. I was fascinated to understand what life could have been like. I read all the 12 books by Winston Graham first and then the Poldark series all 5 DVD's are a worthwhile experience. Sorry it is over
