Aerobic Septic System "PUMP DOWN" Float Switch
Little Giant RFSN-9 115-Volt, Maximum 13-Amp - 1/2 HP, Pump Down Piggyback Tethered Float Switch for Pond, Sump, Sewage or Effluent Systems, 15-Ft. Cord, Grey, 599117 Regular price $94.91 I'm an avid DIYer. Bought this float switch "Used-Very Good" three weeks ago for $32.83. Never been used! Had the original box been opened? Yes. Of course. But who cares? It works like a champ! Used it to replace my aerobic system lowest float switch, the one that fires up my Sta-Rite 1/2 hp 20 gpm sprinkler pump. Want to test it first before installing? Great idea. I tested mine for continuity THROUGH the piggyback plug, not lead-to-lead. (Check YouTube.) Then I cut off the piggyback plug and butt-spliced this new float switch with the existing wiring, using a wire connector crimper with butt splice head, plenty of assorted sizes of WATERPROOF heat shrink CLEAR tubing, an assortment box of butt splices, and wrapped it all up in 3M Super 33 electrical tape. (All these are, of course, available through Amazon.) (I actually had a double problem. My GFCI circuit breaker was bad, also, and I replaced it, also. Cheapest price was available at Amazon.) (I also took a course offered through the county Health Department which allows me to check my own septic system rather than hiring a septic service to come out every 4 months. I send in a report every 4 months and save about $300 a year.) Like I said. Works like a champ!

Dependable float switch
After replacing 2 cheaper switches over 3 years, I installed this one. This is a solid replacement switch with better materials and construction than most of the other cheap switches out there. Only slightly more expensive, you get quality and value for what you pay. Easy to install. Very dependable silent operation. Ejector pump operates flawlessly now.

Worked perfectly for our septic!

Normally OPEN, not normally closed!
This is a great little float switch. Contrary to what is implied or stated in other reviews, this is a normally OPEN switch. Normal position is "at rest," meaning, not raised (not floating/suspended) in the liquid. An open circuit is "off." So, this switch is OFF when down, and is therefore best suited for emptying the tank it is installed in. I know, because I ordered this and its not what I need (I need to fill a tank).

Dependability
My last float lasted 30 years in a basement sump pump that worked hard every time it rained. I live at the base of a hill and I get all the rain from the sidewalk and my neighbor's homes situated above me. This product has been beyond reliable and was still working but not at the proficiency I had come to expect, And after 30 years I believe it was getting a little tired. Time for an upgrade. Thanks for your service. And thanks for a great and reliable product.

easy to install
I replaced an older float switch that had come pre-installed on my grinder pump. I used this Little Giant float switch, in conjunction with the SJE Rhombus 1002230 Cable Weight, to install a new system. It's extremely reliable, easy to install, and works as designed. To be clear, it was "easy to install" after I finally managed to get the old switch out of the tank 2+ hours later. :)

After wasting time with two of the same crap brand switch that failed and flooded our basement
After wasting time with two of the same crap brand switch that failed and flooded our basement, we got this one and it works great. The install instructions are clear, the plastic housing is more buoyant than most and floats easily, the trip angles are ~+45deg turn on and ~-45 deg turn off as advertised, and the cable is nice and soft, allowing the switch to float and trigger properly. Get this. It's a well known brand and for the small premium over a crap brand, it's well worth it to prevent a flooded basement.
