Best pencils ever
I LOVE the Orenz line of pencils. I have a 0.2 and 0.5 lead pencil, and they are my favorite pencils.I have been writing a lot of kanji for practice, and smaller leads work better for some of the more complex characters. As long as you aren't super heavy handed (like, it is a tiny tip, too much pressure is inevitably going to pierce the paper. It's basic physics, folks.), the pen will work great. That said, because it needs a lighter hand, don't get lead this fine for a child. Stick with 0.5 or thicker, since children don't have quite the level of fine motor control required to not just stab the paper. Pretty self explanatory, but bringing it up in case you are considering gifting this to a younger student.

0.2 is shockingly thin, but it's amazing. The Orenz feels great in the hand and the blue is cute!
I got the blue Pentel Orenz. In terms of balance it feels great in the hand. I would compare its weight and overall hand feel to a P205 -- except with a different body shape. This one is smooth and round, and has a more interesting tip. I actually prefer it over the P205 although that's a great pencil, too.The Orenz has a retractable lead tube. It DOES function - I can write surprisingly dark lines with the 0.2 lead that would be otherwise impossible without the lead tube. You do feel the tube dragging on paper, though... The feeling is similar to a Rotring Rapid Pro in that regard. Not better, not worse.I was happy to find you can just extend the lead further (like on a normal pencil) if you don't wish to use the feature. To explain what I mean - the lead tube is designed to go into the pen as you write, so it supports the lead. It's about the same length as a normal lead pipe, so you can just extend beyond it and it functions as a normal pencil.I liked my Orenz enough that I also bought the higher end "Orenz Nero." In the end, I like them both. The Nero feels more 'different' than better.Bottom line - the Orenz is one of my favorite mechanical pencils although I don't actually use the auto-retracting lead support pipe as intended. I prefer to use it like a normal pencil, which is just fine!

breaks easily
This is basically the only pencil my small handwriting doesn't look blurry in, and it feels comfortable to write with. However, it is pretty tiring to fix it all the time. It breaks 95% of the time when you drop it, and the lead sometimes just gets stuck. Since it is so thin, it also leaves marks on the paper even after erasing because it digs into it. This is not a big problem, though, because they're not too noticeable.

Very good mechanical pencil
I was concerned that being such a thin lead I would end up breaking the lead a lot, but true to the quality of the product I have not broken it at all. I have been using Pentel products since the introduction of the 0.5 pencil, and have allways been pleased with the quality.I wish I had had these choices when I was taking my drafting classes.Great quality, easy to use, perfectly balanced.

Simply wow, regarding the lead
Just received this pencil and learned rapidly that a 0.2 lead breaks rapidly if one is not careful. I am delighted with the line it produces. I do not read the script on the packaging so I have no idea what any of it means relative to the performance of the pencil.I found the weight of the pencil to be lite, too lite for my liking and I question its structrual soundness. I have spent four ours drawing with this pencil and I love the line it produces as it beats having to constantly sharpen the lead on a 2mm to maintain line consistancy.I do not understand all the operations of this pencil as it appears by pictures there are some special techniques in the operation of this pencil. however, it is still a fine pen.

I love writing with it, but it's fragile
I love writing with this pencil but don't drop it. It breaks very easily. The metal tip where the led comes out is incredibly fragile and will easily bend if you drop the pencil while it's out

Great but Be Careful
This is my second one of these, and I gotta say its better than the first one. The first one I had was yellow, and it broke fairly quickly. This one however seems more durable. Same brand, and style as the other one, but so far this one has been sturdier. Product instructions are in Japanese, but directions are pretty self-explanatory with added pictures for details. Also if it does break, underside of eraser containers small wire to poke broken lead through other side[see photo]. If you're not used to working with lead this small, beware that it is INCREDIBLY EASY to get stabbed/impaled with it, and the lead is almost impossible to get out if it breaks inside you because of how thin it is [it's literally like a surgical needle]. If this is a gift for children, just make sure you monitor them, or let them know to be extra careful.

An unexpected product...
Nothing wrong with the .2mm pencil but man, this is a hard pencil to write with due to small lead size. I'm a pencil enthusiast and bought it as a curiosity. I'm sure that there is nothing wrong with the device and it probably deserves 5 starts for fit and function. I just couldn't bring myself to 5 stars since there is very little utility in this pencil for me.I am a BIG Pentel fan and have just about every "Sharp" body pencils (Sharp 5, Sharp Kerry).
