Review: Better shifts, easy to find neutral - Motor is quieter. Exhaust volume seems quieter. Neutral is found much faster. Shift into first while cold no longer clunks or lurches as did with Honda GN4. This is a superior product! CRF250L is the bike, operated in hot weather in Japan.
Review: Cured slipping clutch, "snick" is back, quieter valve train - As advertised, Motul 5100 Ester Blend 15W-50 (semi-synthetic) appears to be optimized for a shared-sump motor. I immediately noticed a quieter valve train with my Triumph air/oil-cooled motor. I have recently experienced clutch chatter during high operating temperature in slow speed maneuvering and clutch slip at takeoff prior to reaching full operating temperature. That has seemingly disappeared. Gearchanges are now accompanied by a "snick" rather than what had developed into a soft "clunk". As the miles have piled on, the transmission, although exceptionally smooth compared to many other modern machines, became slightly reluctant to shift smoothly. That has also now seemingly vanished. This particular machine calls for Semi-synth or full synth, shared-sump oil in either 10w-40 or 15w-50 weights. In Southern California, the "winter" weight of the oil is a non-issue, so I have taken liberty in the past with this. The previous fill was with Mobil 1 Racing 4T (PAO, or so we've been told) 10w-40, an oil that I have used for years with little complaint. If anything, my previous fills with Mobil 1 have felt like they are shearing down before 3-4000 miles, well before the recommended 6000 mile interval. In this machine, a previous Triumph twin, and other machines, I have filled with Redline (ester) 20w-50 & 10w-40, Mobil 1 4T 20w-50 (PAO, or so we've been told), Castrol Actevo (semi-synth) 20W-50 & 10w-40, and Castrol Power 1/RS (Group III) 10w-50, plus some others I fail to recall. All of them are fine oils for the application. At some point, the Mobil products resulted in clutch chatter and slip. At some point, the Castrol products seemed to shear down around 2-2500 miles. The Redline products never gave me an issue other than 1) locating some and b) paying the asking price. Motul 5100 is priced more competitively than all but the Castrol Actevo. However, Motul 5100's ester synthetic base and additive package is available at a price point that the competition doesn't offer. For the quantity, this oil is quite a bargain. Although not readily available at an auto parts store like Mobil, Castrol or Valvoline motorcycle oils, telegraphing an oil change and having oil shipped is a minor inconvenience in the context of the benefits of Motul. Frankly, I've avoided Motul for this reason, as well as the fact that they market so hard for independent shops to carry the product line. Having worked as a motorcycle mechanic for a spell, Motul products seemed cheap for this reason, despite being able to buy at cost. However, customer comments on how much better the motor "feels", even with Motul's standard mineral product, should have clued me on. I guess I was ignoring how much harder the huge companies market their motorcycle products to chain stores. So much for standing on principle... Whether Motul 5100 shears down quickly in this bike remains a to be seen. I'll add to this review when I know more. Hope this helps you make a good decision.

## Features

- Smoother, More Confident Gear Shifts: Engineered for noticeably smoother gear shifts in every 4-stroke motorcycle with a wet clutch, this 10w40 motorcycle oil delivers the precise friction characteristics certified under JASO MA2 (T903: 2023, No. M033MOT207) to prevent clutch slippage while ensuring responsive, confident power transfer from engine to wheel across the full RPM range in street, sport, and touring applications
- Engine and Gearbox Protection with Ester Technology: Reinforced with Ester technology typically reserved for premium full-synthetic racing formulas, this Technosynthese semi-synthetic motor oil creates a tenacious protective film that resists shear and thermal breakdown at operating temperatures up to 228 degrees C (442 degrees F flash point) with a viscosity index of 154 that maintains consistent viscosity-grade protection across the full operating temperature range, backed by advanced extreme-pressure additives specifically designed for integrated motorcycle gearbox protection
- Full Compatibility with Modern Emission-Controlled Engines: Certified to the latest API SP standard for modern emission-controlled motorcycle engines, this synthetic-blend engine lubricant features optimized phosphorus and sulfur content that protects catalytic converters and secondary air injection systems on Euro 5 and EPA-compliant bikes, with the oil film durability that high-performance 4-stroke engines require for sustained operation
- Versatile ATV Oil, Dirt Bike Oil, and Motorcycle Oil in One SAE 10W-40 Formula: Trusted as both a dedicated atv oil and a high-performance motorcycle lubricant, this SAE 10W-40 serves every 4-stroke powersport application where the manufacturer specifies a 10W-40 viscosity grade, covering street motorcycles, off-road dirt bike oil applications, adventure touring, ATVs, UTVs, side-by-sides, scooters, and personal watercraft from Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph, BMW, KTM, Ducati, Polaris, Can-Am, and other major powersport brands, with full miscibility alongside existing synthetic and mineral oils and no special flush procedures required when switching from another brand
- Extended Drain Interval with Consistent Viscosity Stability: Engineered with an oxidation-resistant additive package that maintains its protective properties across extended service intervals, this synthetic motorcycle oil supports a recommended drain interval of up to 16,000 km depending on manufacturer guidelines and riding conditions, meaning fewer oil changes per season and a lower cost per kilometer of operation, with Technosynthese base stocks that resist oxidation and viscosity breakdown so the oil protecting your engine at 15,000 km retains its specified viscosity grade and additive concentration within measurable tolerances
