Q: What is the length of the bulb?

It says 99mm/3.89 in from bottom of base to tip.

Q: Can you run these in regular string lights?

As long as they fit I don't see why not.

Q: What is the widthof this bulb?

The screw base is about 7/16 of an inch the bulb at the widest part is about 1 and a half inch wide.

Q: I tried them in four ceiling fan light sockets, but would not shut off. They glowed very lightly?? When I put incandescent lamp in it would not glow.

This is a common problem. These bulbs are non-dimmable and if you have a dimmable switch on the fan, they will glow. Even if you changed the bulbs to led dimmable, they still may glow if you have an old-style dimming switch. There are 2 solutions. Change the switch on the fan to a new style led dimmable switch and use these bulbs, but they will not dim, or change the switch and change the bulbs to led dimmable bulbs.
