Learning QGIS 2.0

I was looking for a thick and comprehensive book on all the functionality and possibilities with QGIS. This is somewhat thin and "shallow" book that covers the basic functionality and helps a beginner get started. It is, as the title suggests, a book about learning QGIS for those who don't know much about it before. I have experience in ArcGIS and GeoMedia, and quickly got the grasp of the basic functionality without the book.But I wanted to learn more, beyond the basics, as QGIS has so much capability. For example how to extend the functionality or automate processes by writing pythons scripts. This book did not cover much beyond what I already had learned by myself.

This book is a guide of QGIS. It describes what can you do and how can you use almost each of the functions of QGIS. Unfortunately it is my opinion that the examples are very few and very simple. There is also no much information on the reasons for each of the analysis used in the examples. I could be very useful to have more examples of the use of satellite images, and how to start using them from scratch, how to perform image classification, etc. I'm assuming that future versions of this book will probably cover some of these points.

This is a good place to start learning QGIS. This is a fine book for people new to GIS. It highlights the high degree of power available in customizing displays. It brevity means that there are a lot of QGIS features that go unremarked. But as a place to begin, it is excellent.

This isn't a comprehensive guide to QGIS 2.x. If it were, it wouldn't be the superb introduction that it is! I've been doing GIS since 1983, and this *may* be the single best intro to a complex GIS platform that I've seen. I'm familiar with QGIS as it's my daily-driver of GIS software but I learned a lot about the next generation 2.x version.Easy to read, it's the "just right" porridge that the Three Bears liked so much.

Excellent progression of practical, economical hands-on lessons for people wanting help learning QGIS functions without being burdened with cumbersome theory. I'm creating maps of asian countried that compare "boots on the ground" forest inventory sample data with aerial imagery, to help politicians make better forest management decisions. This book has helped me tremendously toward achieving that objective!

I have been using ArcGIS for the last 3 years and recently took a job at a non-profit. Being that we are less funded, I looked into QGIS and this manual has been pretty useful figuring out the essential functions of QGIS. Probably wouldn't recommend to someone with absolutely no GIS knowledge, but for what it's worth, this is pretty useful book to have on my kindle.

I like the way that the book organized. In addition, the screen capture is good. However, some instructions are not in details.

Bueno libro, pero muy basico

Small book but covers the basics and enough to get you started. Covers install info for ubuntu and windows. Installing on other distros is also quite easy.

Ho comperato questo libro per avere un riferimento in più sul Qgis. Personalmente lo trovo troppo scarno, non offre grandi dritte e quello che vi dice lo potreste imparare da autodidatti in poco tempo.

This book is very useful for beginners, very clear, and very pratique. Even for version 2.4.0, most of the functions work well.

..in die Tiefe. Alles was vermittelt wird, kann man in Youtube-Videos im Internt besser lernen. Schade eigentlich, weil die vielen Möglichkeiten von QGIS nicht erkennbar sind.

Von der Installation über das Hantieren und Editieren von Vektor und Rasterdaten, bis zu einfachen räumlichen Analysen und zur Gestaltung und Visualisierung räumlicher Daten in Karten wird in klar verständlicher Sprache eine strukturierte Anleitung geboten.
