Read the Books!
I rented this movie with some others because sounded different than martial arts and robots. I didn't know there was such a thing as "yaoi". Admittedly, the story was kind of lame, but I really enjoyed the characters! They seemed well formed, as though they had been snatched out of the middle of a series, so I looked into FAKE and Anime Turnpike. As luck would have it, the first volume of the manga was just being released by Tokyo Pop!I highly recommend the manga for this anime. The artwork far outshines the OAV, and the characters are wonderfully funny and real. The OAV really doesn't do Dee and Ryo justice (if fact they look a bit dispropotioned).Read the books! They'll become your favorite!

Almost there
I liked this OVA for sure, but I was dissappointed that this was the only episode that they did, and they didn't even start at the begining of the series. It is funny though! I like the manga better because it has moe RyoxDee situations and more little facts. I watched it in Japanese before this, and it's kind of like Gravitation for me. The english voices are good, but I like trhe original Japanese ones best. I give it four stars not because I was really disappointed, but because they could have drawn it a little better. Ryo's eyes were kind of droopy....

FAKE is the Word....
My first suggestion?Read the books first, guys, cos I'm afraid the DVD is only worthy as an add-on for extreme fans. While nothing is truly appalling about this, and it has moments of extreme fangirl watch-ability, it is also nothing special. I personally felt that the crux of the plot- aka the romance between Ryo and Dee- is completely stretched, and loses a lot of what is touching, tender and interesting about the relationship in translation. However, JJ's comedy gets an A*, and the Bikky/Carol relationship is sensitively portrayed. Dee's voice is also rather salaciously good, and kudos to the actor for that, as it (and the attention to the 'mysterious murderer') saves the film.In essence, the DVD is a very fun, but non-conversation making piece. It's educational and open minded, and I feel very affectionate towards it- clearly, for its time, it was a well loved work. I would definately reccomend it to a friend, but only as a light movie, and only to a real anime enthusiast, who could appreciate its less obvious qualities. While I do suggest that it is essential viewing for any real FAKE fan, I also suggest to under 18's that you Never let your parents catch sight of you watching it. They WILL get the wrong idea! For those of you that don't have to worry about that- you might consider the years of blackmail material friends and family will have if they walk in during a heavy scene...All in all, I reccomend FAKE the movie, but only as a supplement to the comics. It makes much more sense that way, and lends more appreciation to the author's talent!Es

Not really a movie
Well, having loved the seris, I simply HAD to buy this movie! But I am sad to say that although it was good to watch the plotline wasn't new and was simply an 'episode' from FAKE vol 2-Act 5. Its almost word for word and ruined it for me. Still if you like FAKE I would recommend watching it, but for a cheap price because it just isn't worth getting worked up over. It isn't a movie but an episode, and a one off at that which is dispointing. At least it is true to the storyline, and they havent tried to improve FAKE as an anime, which is matbe it's saving face.
