Complete Nepali Beginner to Intermediate Course: Learn to read, write, speak and understand a new language (Teach Yourself)

I picked this up so I could speak more to my wife's family. The book itself provides fantastic explanations of the grammar and walks you through stories to learn.While the book tells you to use flashcards to learn Devanagari, I recommend just using Duolingo Hindi and 100% the alphabet, then return to this book.The audio is available for free download online from the complete website. I only wish the audio included the vocabulary lists as well, but it's great for those without a Nepali speaker on hand.

Very well written, follows a way train of thought for learning. Take your time on the lessons that are harder for you and do every exercise.

My wife and I are learning Nepali and as previous language learners we did find this book to be helpful, especially the included compact discs which really help you to get a feel for the pace and accent of native speakers. I wouldn't say this is quite the "Nepali for Dummies", it's a tad more advanced than it seems. It will, however, get you into a very difficult language in a relatively short time. Being a learning process, I don't think you can really compare how quickly one would learn verses another method, but for presenting Nepali in a way that is logical and the discs really help you learn faster.

Our son is serving a Mission for our church & is working with a lot of Nepalese people. He's greatly appreciated the help this book has given, so he can communicate his feelings effectively.

the audio cd is not in this package.... i ordered a replacement and got the same, a book with no cd. The audio files can be downloaded. so the cd is probably discontinued, that is fine, but change the description - so we don't waste our time trying to get a cd that is no longer included.... the customer service menus don't have the ability to take a simple question like "can a cd be sent?" and give a simple answer "no" ..... that would have saved me time and Amazon the unnecessary shipping costs.... I like the book, i am not a beginner, have lived in Nepal for some time now...

It was also organized in a great way... When combined with speaking to actual Nepalis and a few beginner pdfs I have been on a fast track :-)

This is the best book to learn Nepali. I highly recommend it! It has everything you need to begin speaking like a native.

I like this book's approach to teaching the Nepali Language. Each lesson is easy to follow. I would recommend it. Amazon willingly replaced a defective audio CD that came with the book. Unfortunately, the 2nd CD I received is also deffective. It is disappointing as I was really hoping to hear the pronunciation dialogues recorded. Thank you Amazon for the quick replacement, but the CD doesn't work.

Leider wurde beim Buch die CD nicht mitgeliefert und ist nun auch nicht mehr erhältlich. Das Buch ist ohne Audiomaterial nicht benutzbar, so dass ich das Produkt zurücksenden musste.

Best Book to learn nepali.... like other books it does not use hardcore grammar and then just gives you a list of sentences already translated like a guidebook with no explanation. This book excellently uses small units, conversations, examples and then explains why when how to use it or whether it is used commonly or not etc. or variations of the same speech.It is not a grammar book it is a very well planned book to learn how to speak nepali. Very beautifully planned chapters makes it really easy to understand and learn.

Great book, the audio helps a lot. Takes quite a bit of time to digest the entire content but it took me to a good place and in about 4 months I could express things of basic and moderate complexity in Nepali. Locals would understand me and we could have some conversation. The book took me to a level where I could read at low/normal-low speed though I could read everything. Getting faster is a matter of practice and I still read Nepali everyday to maintain my level and get better. The glossary contains about 1250 words in both nepali-english and english-nepali which I find a bit low and I found many occasions where the words I needed were not in there. Matter of fact is I had to buy a dictionary because the glossary was not detailed enough. I did not knock one star off for that though because of the richness of the book and I don't think it's aimed at being an extensive dictionary though it would have been a nice extra.

The course is ok in general. The explanations are really good and each dialogue is supported by a CD track. On the other hand apart from the dialogues the book gives many additional new words for each unit. And I wish they were also pronounced and recorded on the CD.
