Quite dainty and lovely. The wings (doors) fold over the treasure within and latch together tightly. I've read that a few buying this piece have trouble opening it. Actually, a locket that closes with a snap is not apt to lose its treasure inside, so that is actually a good thing. The only detail that is worrisome for me is the bail of the locket (the loop built into the top of the locket through which the jump ring goes). The bail is very thin and easily bent and my fear is that it will not stand up to much wear over time. My advice to the manufacturer is to make the bail much sturdier in future lockets of this make. I "antiqued" my locket upon arrival, and it gave it quite an impressive look. It would be nice if future buyers would have the option of having a plain or oxidized version to choose from. Overall, I think the locket is lovely and functional so long as its wearer is not too rough with it. The engraving on the back is very neat but shallow, so the inscription will wear away over time as it does almost any engraving.
