Dupli-Color Perfect Match Premium Automotive Paint, Sonic Blue Pearl, 8 oz

I had some scratches and rubs in the bed of my pickup that I wanted to touch up. A little bit of light sanding, some good automotive primer and then this did the trick. Went on easy and blended great, although I do have a lot of practice spray painting things. Get some cardboard and practice on that first, using both the primer and the paint, until you have a good technique. Don't get too close or put it on too heavy or it will drip. Several light coats at even distances is the way to go. Also be sure to tape off other nearby areas or you will get overspray on things.

This is the second can I’ve bought. Make sure you prime your surface and let it dry and then sand before you paint. Paint is not too bright so it blends well. Make sure you use a a few quick sprays of clear coat on top. Happy with purchase.

Gather 'round, children, and let me tell you a tale of reasonable car restoration. In 2021 your boy was working two jobs: one a day role managing operations for a marketing agency for 8 hours, and the other as a dishwasher for a restaurant for the next 8 hours. In addition there was a 45 minute drive each way from where I live to the restaurant and back. So we are talking long hours. I slept maybe 4 or 5 hours a night. I had taken the restaurant job in an emergency situation (hey, 30K a year ain't bad when nothing else is coming in) and was sticking with it while I was feeling the agency job out. So I was working 16 hours a day, in the summer heat, 5 or 6 days a week. Friday night, well Saturday morning, really, I got off the restaurant job after many sweaty hours (no cooling in that back of house!). I had parked my 2004 Camry in a hotel gararge a block away and was giving a less fortunate fellow employee a ride home. As we got into the car, which was parked next to a massive rectangular pillar, your boy was blathering away at his aquaintance. My Chatty Cathy mode was in full effect. Putting the car in reverse without paying attention at all, I scraped along the pillar with the passenger side door. I don't drink or do drugs. I'm a good driver and don't have any points on my license. But the fact is that I was basically intoxicated after several months of 16 hour days with physical labor and little sleep night after night. I would never have done this under normal circumstances. I would have carefully looked around and checked before starting to drive, especially in reverse. But now my car was deeply scraped and dented, with orange undercoat glaring along that door. Ick. A few weeks later I quit the restaurant job. Now I was dating and man that bunch of digs and scrapes was embarassing! Calling around to some shops, I found their pricing to fill and repair or replace with a junkyard door was way out of proportion to the value of the vehicle--a quarter of the blue book price. No way! I thought I was stuck with the ugly orange reminder forever. In the spring of 2023 I started looking for options. What can I say, I am both busy and slow. Enter this paint. I bought a can and sprayed it on. I was not professional. I did it outside, in my driveway, in the wind, without any PPE. This was an improvement, but I learned about this can. It * did * clog and sputter. It * was * hard to apply with just my finger. I got a lot of drip down the door and thought it was me. But I've ran a metal fab shop and know how to apply spraypaint, so what gives? Maybe that I could hang or sit the object down for better angles, and I can't do that with the door? So the door was say 20% improved with this first pair of coats. You could still see a small bit of the orange, and somehow some purple, though. I waited a year, then got brave again. How about I learn, and this time get a respirator, a snap on spray handle that you squeeze with your whole hand instead of one finger, and another can of paint and try again? This spring, 2024, I tried again. The sun went in and out of clouds and pissed me off with the constant change of light and heat. The wind kicked up. I had taped the door off this time and still got some on the windows. The surface ended up kind of matte, a bit rough for my taste...but overall the experience was much improved. I got two coats out of this can, then snapped the above photo to send to a friend who has seen the car in person many times over the past several years. "Holy cow!" he said. "That is so much better!" He reminded me the purpose of this kind of work is to make your car or whatever look 8% better. It doesn't need to be a masterpiece. He has been holding off improving his own car because of expecting and knowing he'll be disappointed by wanting a 50% improvement. Look--this is say 3 or 4 coats total. I haven't put clearcoat on it. Since May 2024 it has stood up to spring storms, heavy rain, hail, long trips back and forth from North Carolina to Virginia. We'll see in a year or so if it needs further coats or what (remember, I am busy and slow). If you're waiting on making an improvement to your car, and the listing says the color will match, it will well enough. Don't expect perfection but do expect visible improvement. Invest in $30-50 of other supplies like the respirator (mine was $17) and the clip on handle (around $8) and you'll get good results. For what I invested I feel this is a valuable and worthwhile improvement. I hope this was entertaining and informative for you.

EDIT: I got this can to work by soaking it in warm water for ten minutes, and then cleaning out the nozzle with a tiny wire--I stripped the plastic from a baggie tie to get at the tiny wire in it and used that. Now it works well. I keep the can soaking in warm water between coats. I've added one star to bring it up to four stars. You shouldn't need to go through that trouble to get a rattle can to work, but it's not that big a deal, and I do like the paint quality and color match, as well as the spray quality once you get it working. Original review: I bought 2 cans at local auto parts stores, they were perfect--sprayed nicely, got smooth coats that were excellent matches for my white Ram truck (paint code PW7), and the cans sprayed nicely right to the last drops in the can (judging by how light the can was at the end). The 3rd can came from Amazon, and it was a complete fail. I got about 20 seconds of splattery spray from it, then it just shot out globs for another 20 seconds, then it stopped putting out any paint completely. Lots of shaking the can (which feels completely full, ball clangs around in there as it should), cleaned out the nozzle with mineral spirits, nothing helped.

Do not bother with this paint. Did not come out as a spray. All it did was spit and splatter everywhere. Now I have to wait to see if the vendor will buy me a new bumper and fog lights covers. I bought a new bumper through Amazon and new fog light covers. I don’t know how to takeoff paint off plastic without scratching, scuffing up,and ruining the brand new bumper and fog light covers that I bought through Amazon. If not, then I have to pay a professional to do this. Part two: I received my refund for the 17 dollars and some change. But the Amazon associate that assist me 48 hours ago that supposedly was going to request restitution for my damage of my new bumper and fog lights never did the report. So today which is 48 hours later I'm on the phone with another Amazon associate trying to get this resolution. I have a feeling I'm going to be stuck with a splattered bumper. So Amazon associate came back on the phone stated that I have to wait another 48 hours for the seller to respond since the first associate did not send the photos and the email to the vendor. So now I get to call my mechanic again and push him off because I the customer did not get a resolution to what's going to happen with my bumper and fog lights and I have to wait until I get an answer or if I get a refund or I don't even know what. Do you know how hard it is to get into mechanic in the state of Florida! Just as hard as getting into a doctor's appointment. Latest update. Manager says it was my fault with the paint splattering all over the place. And they said I already got refunded for the $18. But it's my fault that now I have $150 worth of damages on their bumper and fog light covers that I got from them due to their paint that they sold me. They said the paint arrived to me with no damages. How did they know that. I explained to them for years I have bought spray paint for them and I never had issues and I never complain about anything I never sent anything back. But this one can spit everywhere and I'm at fault.So I could either spend money at a mechanics to get this paint off or buy a new set through them. So I canceled everything. I am no longer buying from amazon. When they call the customer the blamer of their default product, there is something wrong with the company. Money grubbing Chinese supporting company. They probably don't even like Americans.

Perfect match! My wife's car got keyed by someone that is small minded and has no feelings for other people! I have spent 50 years fixing cars for others, some at no charge for people that can't afford to repair their vehicle! My wife is happy again, so I am happy. It's not difficult to make wife happy. Just give her something she will appreciates from you!

Had to replace a side view mirror. Came unpainted. Bought this and sprayed the shell myself. Great match.

I bought a used car that had paint missing in small dots that could be filled with a paint pen, but also long stretches along the inside A-pillars (near the windshield) where the paint had flaked off. They were bare metal areas about 8 inches long and about an inch wide, so I thought that's definitely going to need spraying. Dupli-Color is the top brand company for this kind of thing, so I trusted them. I masked everything off and started spraying. The paint came out very watery / runny, even though I was being careful not to overapply. I remembered that a decade ago the same thing happened with a different car I owned, sags and runs after spraying Dupli-color. I thought that might be a one-time fluke, but I guess not. The color match was good, but it's not going to be glossy. It took 3 applications with drying time in between to get satisfactory coverage. In retrospect, I wish I had bought an extra paint pen (or 2) and used the whole thing with the brush applicator, laying it on heavy, instead of spraying. The paint inside the pen is so much thicker and glossier, I think it would have produced better results, although it would have been time consuming. The only thing I'd recommend this spray for is a large item like a side mirror, where brush marks would be too obvious. Or long scrape damage on a rocker panel, where you just want to hide the damage with matching color.
