I think it will be great for lounging on the beach! The material is nice and thick- thicker than a bed sheet. It's not nearly as thick as a towel but I didn't expect it to be- I think this will be easier to shake sand out of versus a towel. The colors are perfect and I think it will be beautiful in photos. This size is also great! Both my fiancé (6' male) and myself can lounge on this. This honestly exceed my expectations! However, I already had a general idea of these things before purchasing.
