Just buy it! Esp at this price
Great packaging. Great series. Highly recommend if you like fantasy + crime dramas + a protagonist that's kind but also a bit of a sarcastic 🍆 sometimes.

An excellent introduction to the Dresden Files
I bought these on a whim, having heard of some of the awesomeness of the Dresden Files from [...]. I was not disappointed! Includes the first three books in the Dresden Files (currently 12 books long), Storm Front, Fool Moon, and Grave Peril. The books are pretty fast-paced, lots of action, cultural references, snarkiness and usually one or two climatic magic and gun-slinging brawls. In Storm Front, we meet protagonist Harry Dresden, private investigator wizard in Chicago investigating the supernatural, finding lost objects and people, and helping out Lieutenant Karrin Murphy of the Chicago PD's SI (special investigations) unit with weird cases. We also are introduced to girlfriend/reporter Susan Rodriguez, crime lord Marcone, Bob the Skull (an expy of Morte from Planescape), and Morgan and the White Council. In Fool Moon, we get every variety of werewolf possible as a series of grisly murders hit Chicago. Grave Peril really kicks off the rest of the series, introducing recurring characters Michael Carpenter, Knight of the Cross, and Thomas Raith, White Court vampire, as the beginning of a 10-book story arc with the Red Court of vampires. While not my favorites in the series, (hence the 4 stars, it really picks up the pace with book 4, Summer Knight), these are a great introduction to the rich and detailed world of the Dresden Files. Highly recommended. The box set came with a pretty nifty poster as well!

Just too good
There are not many authors who can pull off first person writing at all, much less do it so well that the pages just keep on turning. Jim Butcher is the best in the business. Having first read Butcher through his Spider-Man novel, I was impressed beyond words at how well he wrote in first person. After that experience, I finally got around to starting his Dresden Files series. I lament that I waited so long. There's nothing to take away from these novels. The characterizations leap off the page, with the descriptions and narration never failing to keep the reader interested. The ignorance of the main character of what might be occurring off stage is so well-done that it is difficult to stop reading for breaks of any length. Truly, Jim Butcher is a master. The tales of Harry Dresden, a wizard/private investigator, are good beyond compare. In all aspects, from the story to the characters to the dialogue to the settings to the supernatural aspects to the fallibility and humanity of Dresden himself, these books belong on the shelf of any reader of fantasy, horror, or science fiction. And considering that the box set basically makes it 3 for the price of 2, you really cannot go wrong. Buy these books!

A good start for a unique series
The Dresden Files contains an implausible but brilliant mix of swords & sorcery and noir mystery. When I heard the premise, I never thought it would work. Never been so glad to be wrong. The series gets off to a somewhat rocky start here, with three stories that were somewhat formulamatic, but nonetheless clever and frequently amusing. Harry Dresden is always likable and endearingly flawed. And his world is as unique as they come, combining regular joes who know nothing about magic with supernatural criminals (and cops), faeries, spirits, ghosts, and even werewolf street-gangs. Through it all, Harry gets help from a smart-@$$ talking skull, a tough-as-nails cop who's wise to the ways of the supernatural, a modern-day Knight of God, and some even less likely allies.Plus you get three books for the price of one!!! What's not to love there? If you enjoy fantasy (with a fair bit of humor and a surprising ammount of heart), you'll fall in love with Harry, his side-kick Bob, and his friend and confidante on the police force Karrin Murphy. There's a trio I would want defending me against the forces of evil any old day...Wizard for Hire and the stories within provide a good start for a GREAT series!

Better than the TV show by a long shot
I loved this book series. Got it for my wife, and now she's hooked too. If you ever wanted to read Harry Potter, but instead of him being a British schoolboy, he was a grizzled Chicago detective, then you have strangely specific taste. Fortunately for you, that book exists, and it's The Dresden Files.

Great box with the first 3 novels! Why are the next boxes so superexpensive?
I got the first boxed set at a very reasonable price (yay!). Up to now I have always borrowed the Dresden novels, but I thought it might be nice to possess them myself. Actually the series gets better with every book: the first story is nice, the second (exp. the second part) really cool and after reading the third one, I was a fan. :) Unfortunately, the 2nd box is much too expensive (outside the US at least), so I will have to buy the next novels book by book (second hand or new) whenever there's a bargain to be made...

A wizard name Harry
If you've never read a Harry Dresden novel, then your life hasn't begun yet. This is a great set of books to get you started on the series.
