They work in sleep mode. In any case the system will tell you when the sensor battery is wearing out. **Q: The wall I would want to put the siren on is north facing. Would it get enough power from the sun as it wouldn’t be in direct sunlight?** A: Not a good idea but I cannot say for sure that it would discharge. Maybe if you had a period of bad weather in the winter months you might have an issue.
