a stress free dog is a happy dog
As a pet parent and reviewer, I tested the OraStix on my 90 pound pitbull prone to mild anxiety during thunderstorms and fireworks. After introducing the sticks 30–60 minutes before an anticipated stressor (such as July 4th fireworks), I observed a notable calming effect within an hour. While not sedative, the chews appeared to take the edge off, allowing my dog to rest more comfortably. The texture and shape of the sticks also encouraged chewing, which in turn aided in plaque reduction. After several weeks of daily use, there was noticeable improvement in both breath and overall oral cleanliness. Melatonin, typically used to aid sleep and anxiety, is well-dosed here—effective without over-sedation. However, pet owners should always consult their vet before using, especially for dogs with health conditions.

Dogs Like It. Mild Calming Effect, No Side Effects
Both of my dogs like these! I use this for my 2 small / medium dogs. One had mild separation anxiety after the pandemic and the other is a rescue dog who is cautious and anxious about everything: playing with his brother, jumping up onto the couch with us, going for a walk outside, etc. These have helped them to be more calm without seeming sedated or drugged in any way. I have noticed they are less clingy, less weird about things, more relaxed, and more likely to play together when I give them these treats. TLDR: not a miracle drug, you still have to train your dog, BUT mild calming effect, and importantly-no negative side effects

The chill pill in a treat!!
This stuff is the only thing that calms my bischon down. With age she developed anxiety during storms and was such a clingy doggy. One of these what I called…”sleepy time” treats and she was resting before the storm and napping good enough to not wake up when I walked by…gave me a little break without her trailing behind me all day! I loved it! And I gave one to my nieces Labradoodle. She says “what did you give her…she never naps in the afternoon”! She used it for car trips and it kept her dog from going cra-cra during travel!

Calming Sticks That Didn't Work For My Dog
Looking for something to help with my dog's anxiety, I decided to try these Zesty Paws calming dental sticks. I was looking for a brand that is reputable, made in the USA and also something that didn't have any CDB oil. This item fit the bill and is also highly rated on Amazon. Based on my dog's weight, she can only get 1 stick per day. She likes the flavor of it and chewed it up so quickly. But it didn't seem to work on decreasing her anxiety. And we had gone through one whole bad and still didn't see any difference. This may work for your pup but it didn't work for mine.

Dogs Obsessed
Our dogs are obsessed with these. They smell great and go a long way when broken up. We like to hide pieces around the house as a game for the dogs. They will sniff around for hours trying to find all of the pieces. Great stuff.

Pretty good
No need to bother with a photo review because what you see is what you get. Even if the calming effects don't work for your pup, the teeth cleaning seems to be very good! Given these to my dog 3 times so far and he hasn't had any adverse effects and hasn't gotten sick. Very cheap for a dentastix comparison plus calming effects too? Bargain! My unfixed male 3 year old dog doesn't calm down for anything, not even these treats, but it does seem to help him sleep longer once he does go to sleep. His breath smells minty fresh after so that freshening aspect works well. My dog is a mix between a chihuahua and a wiener dog and it's just the right size for him to much on for a few minutes with relative ease kind of a mix between a soft and a hard treat. Medium and large dogs would chew these up in half a second.

Update to original review.. see bottom
My dog is a 25 pound Sheltie. He has been given these chews almost every night for about a year. Last night this all has changed. We had a serious close call last night. We give our boy a zesty paws treat every night before bed to help with dental cleaning. It also has a calming affect. Been doing it for a year, no problems. But last night he started choking on it and he wasn't breathing. He was thrashing around and I thought we were losing him. I tried reaching into his throat to see if I could remove it. Couldn't. Frantically I tried doing what could only be considered the Heimlich maneuver. Somehow eventually he dislodged it but it got stuck sideways between his teeth, but at least he was able to now breathe. My daughter the vet tech arrived and we all held him so she could reach in and pull it out. You could tell he was so relieved.... And so were we. Be careful of these hard chewable treats. Never had a problem before but now I'm scared to death to give him anymore unless I cut it into a much smaller piece. Anyways, Mika is still here and fine this morning ♥️. I doubt that I will ever give these to him again. ** So, since this unfortunate incident I've been breaking the treats into 1/4 pieces. Now give them this size to both of our Shelties. They do love the treats and they definitely help them stay relaxed and help the sleep. So glad that it did work out... Just be vigilant !
