I do believe in having the right tools for the job makes it easier, if not more convenient. These rods will work as intended and it sure beats the ill fitting pry bar or large worn out screw driver we all seem to have. I have had a set of winding rods before and for the life of me must have traded them of forget where I put them. Your springs will eventually need replacing and or adjusting. Do it right and do it safely. The cost is minimal for the convenience and safety of doing it with the right tools.

DISCLAIMER: If you are not handy and are not physically strong, you should hire a professional to replace torsion springs, as accidents can happen and result in serious injuries and/or death. I initially was hesitant in buying this product as the Youtube videos said 18" tension rods, but this was 16". Since I was not able to find the 18" rods at local stores (and unwilling to pay that much, nor hire a professional), I chose to chance it and bought it. I only did this because I'm quite a strong and handy person - even then, after using the rods to release the tension from the torsion rods, I felt like I had a good arm workout! If you choose to buy this, always be very careful and follow the manufacturer's instructions!

It is almost mandatory to have those bars to change your garage doors springs in a safe way. Without them you take a lot of risk to get the spring "bouncing" back and hurt you. Good quality and served very well.

The pair of torsion rods worked great! I got my garage door springs safely wound/unwound and performed the necessary adjustments to balance the weight of the garage door. Although they are just a pair of metal rods, it is a specialty tool necessary for making torsion spring adjustments. It is worth the small investment. Do not improvise with another type of rod that may not fit properly or could fail under tension. The potential for injury is present as the wound springs store a lot of energy. Like any DIY task, there are do's and don'ts. If you lack the working knowledge, before starting, learn the steps and procedures to safely perform this garage door repair or hire someone to do the repair. Good luck and be safe.
