Kinyo UV-230C 2-Way VHS Cassette Rewinder and Cleaner

I bought this because I had acquired 100 used tapes. They were dusty and not perfectly clean. So I wanted a rewinder with a cleaning pad. It's a dry pad. It has a kind of cotton covering on it. So after about 20 tapes the pad had gotten pretty dirty. I thought hey why not just clean it. But what happened is that the cotton material was just tacked on to the plastic. It was not actual cloth / cotton fabric. So I had a spare but instead of using it I made my own using a 'non-woven' fabric like the kind you get for the floor wipers. It's soft and there's no lint. It took some delicate gluing with contact cement to get it on there correctly. But I've had excellant results and now I know that I won't have to worry about replacing the cleaning pad. I'll simply 'make' a cover over and over and over. The unit itself is a bit cheap in one sense. It does not 'POWER' through a sticky cassette. IF the cassette is balky and tight and poorly designed or otherwise less than good condition the rewinder might stop and make it hard to finish the job. But this happens on 1 out of 50 tapes. And believe me that tape is probably best left out of the machine anyway. So all in all I think it's a great value. And a good rewinder. Treat it gently and it should last a long long time. PS - I'm an engineer so I can tell you it's a good one. Not bullet proof for rough service. But it will last with proper care.

I recently bought a video rewinder which works very well. It takes the load off my video player, and it even cleans the videos as they are being rewound. It helps the player to last much longer. At present, this is the third video player I have had to buy in the past 4 years. I also have a video cleaner to keep my heads cleaned and working properly. I am very pleased with my "rewinder-cleaner," and I certainly recommend it to anyone who would like to keep their machines a little longer. Tommie

Saves wear and tear on the VCR. The cleaning spindle is handy as I had some old tapes with fungus. Cleaned them well enough to digitize them with my Dazzle Dazzle DVD Recorder connected to my computer. My home movies are now on DVD with menus so I tossed the VHS tapes. Be careful, older tapes may break as this runs full speed to the end. I broke three and had to splice them (highly NOT RECOMMENDED as this may damage the drum and pickup heads in your VCR) to play them for digitalization. Over all I will fast forward and rewind every tape before trying to digitalize in my VCR.

I was very pleasantly surprised with this product. There aren't many rewinders for VHS on the market anymore, and most of what is out there is junk. We purchased 6 different rewinders locally and returned them all as they would only work one or two times then quit. This one cleans the tapes, goes forward, goes backwards and keeps doing it! I originally had a vhs cassette cleaner from a company called Geneva, which was an EXCELLENT cleaner (I was 100% satistfied with it). This Geneva cleaner cleaned in a "wet mode" using alcohol and left all my videos squeaky clean. The Kinyo cleaner is not nearly as good cleaning vhs cassettes, and I'm sure it's because it works on a "dry mode". It has also broken some of my old vhs tapes and I've had to open them and taped the ends together again. For its value, the Kinyo cleanser is a good one, but you should be taking a good look at it so you can stop it before it reaches the end, otherwise it will break the tape at the end.

Horrible. The gears ingage before the tape is even loaded. You have to force the tape into the moving gears and hold down the tape door as it does not latch to stay closed on it's own. When the tapes are rewinding it is very loud and slams the tape when it is done. You can just hear the damage being done. This model destroyed several of my daughters tapes. We really needed a rewinder to preserve our vcr and chose this model because it has an option to clean the tapes, preserving them also - this would be great providing it functioned properly. Thinking maybe I got a defunct one I had Amazon send out another, it too functioned in the exact same manner. Nope mine wasn't bad, their all bad, this model is disfunctional. I've advised Amazon not to carry units that they have become aware do not work properly. I wish Amazon direct had good models to choose from, this one is not!

This does a good job, stops auto. and pops up tape. The cleaner pad is round and has 6 different marked positions to use on one pad you just turn to #'s 1-6, and it comes with 2 extras, not as other review states that it is not replacable, it just pulls out and put on new pad. So far so good very happy esp. for the price.

I purchased 4 and out of the 4,I had to return 3 because they didn't work. I received 3 replacements and had to return 2. They aren't very well made and you can tell even when they do work. When you close the tape part to make it rewind, it will become loose very easily, so you have to hold your hand on the machine for it to start. I wouldn't suggest buying one.
