Accordion Jazz
This book is a great help. All accordion players should understand what it is they are playing when it comes to chords. This book is mostly for treble instruction but for the accordionist it will help you realize what those left hand chords are all about. I got this book with the "Mel Bay Chord Melody Method" and together they are a fabulous resource.

Useful, but suffers from brevity
Accordionist Gary Dahl presents a whole bunch of scales for the budding accordionist. These are certainly useful, but the author neglects to explain in much detail how any of the various scales can be best employed. With a modicum of text, this could be done.

Accordion Scale book
This was a gift for an accordion playing friend that was in need of a good scale book. I inspected the book and found it to be comprehensive and helpful. He was pleased to receive it!

dissapointed
I would like to mention that I enjoy most of Mr. Dahl's accordion books so I had high expectations for this one. Unfortunately, I must agree with one of the reviewers that this book is basically a bunch of scales and it almost completely lacks written explanations on how to and when to use them. This should be just an appendix in his Chord Melody book, not a standalone book. You can find most of its content for free in many online jazz resources, therefore I recommend to spend your $ on a decent jazz theory book instead.

Overwhelming, no guidance on usage
Useful book. The real issue is that is doesn't give any indication of how to use those scales. No guide to 'your basic major/minor scales are... And you should learn them in this order' or 'These scales are good for playing xyz music'. There are also quite a few duplicates in the book. Some pointers would be really helpful. As is, it's essentially an information dump. It is useful but it's completely overwhelming with no narrative.

This Is Good
I wanted a comprehensive book about scales. Gay Dahl's book is certainly that. He deals with scales in both hands which helps with playing solos on the bass. I am a beginner with the accordion but my experience at the piano taught me that playing scales is very good for speed, accuracy, general dexterity, understanding musical theory and just exercising your fingers. The book presumes that you can read music but most basic tutor books will help if you don't. There are sections on Jazz and Blues. I hope this book will help me progress from struggling beginner to virtuoso soloist. Buy it and use it often.
