A Woman Wrapped in Silence

the joy, the sense of foreboding
This was an inside view of Mother Mary's heart from a sensitive poet's heart. It shows how a woman of intense Jewish spirituality in the1st century would have reacted to the request from God that she become the Mother of the Messiah, the one who is to come. The author captures: the excitement, the joy, the sense of foreboding, her need for legitimacy, her need to rely on her spouse on earth - St. Joseph, while complying with all of the requisites of the Law for a woman in her position. Then, the almost unbearable tenseness and immense sorrow that slowly unfolds as Jesus leaves her and fulfills his mission. As it culminates with his condemnation and crucifixion, her suffering goes beyond the ability to describe, and Mary enters into a oneness with her Divine Son as he suffers and dies in front of her on the cross. This is a wonderful poetic account of a woman of enormous stature and it helps the reader to better appreciate Mary and her singular place in human history.

A BooK for All Christians
I bought a paperback copy of this years ago and loaned it to my uncle, who never returned it. I was hesitant to loan a life-long Methodist a book on the Mother of Christ because many Protestants are uncomfortable with the Church's veneration of Mary.He was so moved by the prose and explanations of the life of Mary, that he asked to give the sermon at his church on Mary's place in the Methodist faith. It was a topic he had never before considered. And I had to buy another copy. The prose is beautiful. The action takes one through the events in the life of the family of Christ through the eyes of Mary. The portrayal of the loss of Jesus in Jerusalem and the crucifixion are especially moving.

Best Book on the Mother of Christ I have Ever Read
One of the most beautiful books about the Mother of Jesus Christ ever written. The prose flows through the entire book and expresses the emotions Mary must have felt during the darkest periods of her life.I gave this book to my uncle, who was a leader in his Methodist Church. When it came his turn to preach a sermon on Sunday, he chose Mary as his topic. He had never known exactly how to think of her. This book clarified his thinking and enabled him to see her place in the formation of Christianity.

I love reading this book!
This is an incredible book that is written so well. It goes in great depth mining the gems of our Lady, Joseph and Jesus. It's a book of meditation on the life of the Holy Family and is done extremely well! It's like stepping into their lives and being right there with them along their journey. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know our Lady, Joseph and Jesus in a very down to earth way that we can all relate too! Thank you so much for writing this book!!!Anna Lange (Leland, NC)

She really was wrapped in silence from the Biblical point of view.
This is such a lovely book about Jesus told from the viewpoint of his mother Mary. And one can just imagine Mary speaking these words. John Lynch is such a beautiful writer. I read this book every Advent and use pages from it for readings to my adult education classes.

I read this book many years ago and am reading it again. Lynch brings out thehumanness of Mary, the Mother of God. Although it was written quite a while agoit continues to speak to me today. Lynch writes this book in narrative poetry. I have readit during the Church seasons of Advent and Lent.Thank you,Diane

Woman Wrapped In Silence
This book is a classic, which I have enjoyed for the past thirty years. I misplaced my copy and was pleased to find it available at Amazon. This book is written in narrative poetry style detailing the life of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. As a mother, myself, I can relate to the experiences and feelings of Mary as she lived her life as the Mother of a very special Child.

Beautiful Poetry
This book is my favorite book of all time. It's not the easiest book to read because of the depth of the poetry. I typically will read just a few pages at a time and soak it all in.

Cheap cover
As someone who has had and lost the hard back version of this book, I was very disappointed with the presentation. Looked like an amateur job. However the content remains poetic and beautiful

Inspiring
I initially bought this book some years ago; a friend had loaned hers to me, and I could not return it without having it to read again as part of my meditation. I since offered six copies to friends who find it inspiring, and I will continue to share it with anyone who shows interest.
