Sherlock (BBC) Complete Series 1-3 Blu-ray [UK Import] [1080i player required/Region Free]

I couldn't be happier with this set! Anyone interested in this set most likely already knows how incredible Sherlock is, so I'll focus my review on the actual product. The box itself, as well as the individual fold out cases for each season, are beautifully designed, user friendly, and well-made. Each individual season has its own fold-out case with pictures, episode blurbs, and eye-catching designs, so the set is a fantastic item for any collector. I place high value on the packaging for products like this and am always trying to get my hands on a nice-looking box set with more to offer than some cool cover art and a plastic case, so this set has me extremely satisfied. The price might be a little high compared to what each season may cost individually, but for packaging like this, plus the photo book, this box set is well worth it.

I just loved the whole series and this edition have the commentaries which is great. You learn so much more as to what the creators are trying to accomplish with the series when listening to them talking about why they did the modern version of Sherlock and what little gems they are trying to put into the series. Also where their inspiration comes from. Wish they have commentaries included in the 3rd series. Hopefully they would do that for the 4th series when their DVD comes out after production.

It's Sherlock. How could I not love it.THIS IS NOT IN U.S. Region 1 format. It will NOT play on U.S. DVD players.We have a region free DVD player, as I am British, but live in the U.S. so this is fine for us.

This was wonderful. We were a bit concerned that the introduction and previews were all in Dutch, but once we got through the beginning and figured out how to remove the Dutch sub-titles, the show was marvelous. Don't panic with the Dutch start of each dvd.

Got the DVD set, plays good on my Samsung DVD player, for some reason. Love the actors, stories, etc... but only three shows per season, is a rip off. Each is just redone with a voice over. Still say its worth it. Just a big letdown.

Benedict Cumberbatch makes an excellent Sherlock Holmes! These are well-written, up-to-date, and entirely entertaining!. I love how they make some of the old stories so current.

Volumes 1-3 took over a month to arrive. We learned too late the volumes were shipped from the UK! Tried to play volume 1 and an error message appeared saying “the DVDs were formatted for use in the UK ONLY”. Frustrating to say the least and leaving me no option other than considering the purchase a lesson in BUYER BEWARE. Not sure how something like this could occur but lesson learned!

This is a very well produced totally modern version of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson with some very stimulating new cases to solve. I'm sure that Conan Doyle himself would have approved. Benedict Cumberbatch has all the attributes of the traditional Holmes and plays the part with great charisma, while Martin Freeman as John Watson is an excellent counterfoil with his medical knowledge and his grasp of media technology to chronicle the cases. This box-set contains series one to three so I just need to get series 4 to complete the set. Sadly, this would appear to be the end, although there is so much scope from the wealth of Sherlock Holmes stories to produce more series and surely the public demand is there too?

An outstanding piece of television on the whole.Sherlock series 1-3 brings Sherlock Holmes up to date, living in 21st century London. He's a younger version of the character than the one we often see in adaptations and so is Watson too. Watson spends his time writing a blog rather than a journal, Sherlock uses the latest technology to fight crime and forges a career ought as a consulting detective.Holmes is characterised as impulsive, restless, unsocial and often insensitive and unfeeling. However he as excellent powers of observation and inductive reasoning. Watson is your everyday man, warm, decent, principled, he acts as Sherlock's moral compass too, together they make a great. Recently returning from Afghanistan he now finds adventure and danger much closer to home. Nothing ever happens to me he sighs as episode one beings, not long after he's crawling across London rooftops chassing a serial killer, the show is of course fantastical but that good fun too and more series one and two still have a somewhat grounded feel to them.Hound - clever no hound, but then there is, Watson and Holmes go in together, there is no Baskerville hall, just a secrete army base, story brought up to date cleverly. Not overly cluttered with subplots.Sexuality rather than brains her weaponS3- flounder - Watson's wife superspy assiasin ....s4 - darker

I was prepared not to like this; the actors are miscast (Moriarty has a silly voice) and the writers have plundered the sacred texts. But my boxing trainer kept singing their praises and (by cracky) he was right. The team pulled it off to make something that was both its own story and yet true to the original. All three series benefited from the longer than usual screening times that allowed for stronger plot development, as well as some very amusing rethinking of the original stories. This means that while we may recognise the general story-line from our Brett Series and the novels we can be sure it will take an inventive detour.

So many 5 star reviews here already, I thought I would address a couple of queries. Someone complained there are no subtitles on later episodes. They are there, but you need to click on "Subtitles off" to turn them on!Someone else complained of the size. I play these on my widescreen Mac and they fill the screen.I have loved the stories since I was a child and still do. Also absolutely LOVE this series. The writing and acting are perfect. Lots of marvellous Extras on these discs. Listening to Moffat and Gatiss talking, you know why the series is such a huge hit - two very professional and talented men and they love what they are doing. Looking at the Extras, you can see how this attitude filters down through the whole crew: everyone involved is determined to make this the most stunning series ever.Off to watch it all over again and see what I missed the first time…!

I had not seen this untill recently. The acting is good and the stories unusual.sherlock himself is a bigheaded smart arse who in the real world would spend his life on his back as everyone who met him would punch him on the nose! But hey its fiction and enjoyable.
