Would 1/4" be big enough? If not, can this take 3/8" staples?** A: There are three measurements that define the size of staples; Thickness of the wire, length of the staple, and width of the staple. I assume you're asking about the 1/4" width of the staple, referred to as the crown width. I think a 1/4" crown stapler like this one would be fine for attaching carpet. You need to pick a staple length that is long enough to go through the carpet and penetrate into the wood stair tread far enough to hold.
