First 1/2 has a lot of angst - 3.5 stars
The need to stop Luciana, the witch’s coven leader, becomes more critical than ever, and the stakes are raised for not only the werewolves, but for humans as well. The first part of the story overlaps the last book somewhat when it comes to what’s going on with Raphael and the need to get him as close to Claudia as possible while she searches for a cure for him.We get action and a number of new situations in this story—which I enjoyed—but I have to say the first half of the book was difficult for me to get through. Tessa has a lot of good reasons for her angsty thoughts and feelings, but it was really becoming a drag to read. But things really start to pick up and/or get more interesting around the halfway mark.I find the story arc interesting and like many of the characters, especially Tessa. She’s only been a werewolf for a couple of months and known she’s a bruja for about the same length of time, yet she’s more powerful than many. And her experiences as a human save the werewolves more than once.I’d give this higher marks if the first half of the book hadn’t dragged so much. And I’d be more impressed if it was better edited.

4 stars: Alpha Unleashed by Aileen Erin
Tessa becomes a reluctant ambassador to/determined defender of humanity when Luciana goes full-demon and the supernaturals are exposed to the world.Best bits: Tessa is a walking contradiction, and yet consistent with her character through the series. She wants to help, but not be in the spotlight. She wants to use her visions, but hates them. Etc. Her best feature in this book is her ability to be were, witch, and human all at once, suppressing were instinct in the face of danger to prevent bad things happening and combining it all to reach victory. Good support from the rest of the cast, too. Maintains abstinence until marriage (or bonding) and does not include sex scenes, thankfully. Solid HEA, even with more books promised.Issues: Some typos, and several obvious missing words. I still have a beef with the overly-italicized bits where she is having a vision. More swearing (especially as things go downhill, so at least that's "appropriate," timing-wise). Lots of demons, and using that creepy corpse hand from book 4 (though thankfully that is minor in this book).

Not quite what I was hoping for...
*** I reviewed my personal copy of this book for Wicked Reads***I have read all the previous books in the Alpha Girl series by Aileen Erin. I have easily grown to appreciate this series and all the characters in this series! Book #5, Alpha Unleashed, switches back to Tessa from book #4, Bruja, which focuses on Claudia and her journey in Peru. Personally, I think if you wanted to you could just skip book #4 unless you're really invested in Claudia's character and want to know more about her. I will say that this last one kind of felt a little anti-climatic compared to what I was expecting. I just felt like everything was finally coming to a head with Luciana and then it was over. However, I did enjoy seeing how Tessa and Dastien's relationship has grown over these past few books, but I wish it didn't feel like they were moving at such a snails pace. I guess I had high expectations and unfortunately this one didn't quite live up to them.Even after failing to successfully steal Tessa's magic Luciana has not given up and she's just getting started. Luciana's demonic summoning must be stopped or it could be the end for everyone. Tessa and her friends are ready to fight back and with a little help from Claudia, Tessa's cousin, they may just be able to win if she can make it home in time. All in all, I enjoyed Alpha Unleashed, but I definitely didn't like it as much as I liked Becoming Alpha, book #1, which has been my favorite so far. The past two books just really haven't wowed me much. However, I am slightly curious about the next book, which will feature Meredith and her mate, Donovan. Overall I'd give Alpha Unleashed 3.5 stars ***

I've thoroughly enjoyed this series
I've thoroughly enjoyed this series. The first half of the book overlaps Bruja slightly, so there's a bit of repetitiveness as some of the events are re-told from Tessa's view point instead. As the two stories take place on separate continents, it's not much of an overlap and easily blends into the story.I've loved Tessa's and Dastien's story, and I've loved watching Tessa come to terms with her new world. I can see why the author wrapped up this story line and eliminated this big bad, and I'm grateful she did wrap it up in a way the series can now stand on its own. It seems so many authors these days would just drop them into another situation and string the series along. That being said, there were some things hinted at during the story line that never seemed to fully develop. The story ends right at the coming out party (for lack of a better phrase), and while Tessa is straddling that fine line like her Grandma foretold, it's not the solid footing or the leadership position I imagined when I first read that part. There feels like there was more to come. Yes the story line ended, but it didn't feel totally complete. This might be the end of Tessa's story for now, but there's enough teasers out there that has me eagerly awaiting when the author wants to revisit this world. I give this a strong 4.5 stars, losing half a star simply because this is the end of the series, but it doesn't feel over.

Urban fantasy
This book is like a binder wrap up. All the characters are present. The story gets expanded on. There is necessary events to move the series along.

Nice wrap up
Although there are still a lot of unanswered questions, I believe they will be answered in the spin off series. Yet, this book ended the battle with Luciana. I am happy with that and the battle was pretty good. However, I thought it would include witches and werewolves across the world, and it didn't. Coming out to the humans was a big step and I am sure that the next books will go into more detail about the benefits/consequences of that action.

Okay
The story and characters were well developed and had an interesting plot, however I struggled with the whole bonding thing. For me it happened to quickly and lacked emotion. Even after they were bonded I didn't feel the love for each other it just felt like meaningless words. Tessa obsessed over him but he didn't do the same with her. She recalled her bonding but he didn't recall his to her. She didn't even ask him! He said words in French but again lacked emotion. Such a shame as I loved the first book. There is a HEA but not sure if I again felt any emotion from it.

Enjoyable series
I do love this series, it's a nice way to wrap up the series. It's a shame that there is not going to be another to say what happens to the rest of the team. This book isn't overly exciting but it ends everything nicely.

AMAZING
I loved this book. Not just the book but the whole series. This last book in the series really brings the hole story together. There's not really much I can say this book is just incredible. You need to read this series. Tessa is just a badass. Haha. It's written lovely. I really liked the way she brought the whole series together. Not predictable at all. Just read it. Not a waste of time. I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN...
