Different editions, different receptions
Apparently there are several "versions" of Brynhildr in the Darkness released at the same time (or more or less the same time) and this is a better visual edit version. If you use a smaller TV or computer screen the visuals are about the same for the DVD versions, but different for the Blu-Ray version.Yes, this is a dark, somewhat biting story that sinks its teeth into what makes people actually be "people" instead of just automated robots, and is related to and a continued story from Elfin Lied. This has the better DVD images, and the edits are clean and easily handled by 4k TV or 5k monitors, and there really is not a huge difference between DVD and Blu-Ray here.If you are only going to watch it on lower resolution TV or computer screens, go with the cheaper one, if you're a gizmo phile is the higher end gizmo goodies, go to this version or the Blu-Ray only version.
