Stranger Things Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set

This is just hasbro trying to cash in on stranger things success. The campaign is short and not interesting. My 15 year old son loves stranger things, so i thought this would be a good way to introduce him to DnD. It was not.

I'll preface by saying that I do not own this set. I have been a player for the adventure. The minis aren't bad but the adventure is a rather dull dungeon crawl one shot. I highly recommend getting the regular Starter Kit instead. Lost Mine of Phandelver is an excellent beginner campaign for DMs and players alike and offers a more rounded experience for the same price.

Don’t buy this unless you are crazy about the action figure or Stranger Things. The rules are so light as to be nonexistent. No experience tables, scarcely any class information and the thinnest fantasy humanoid descriptions included with sample characters but not in the ‘rule book’. By “starter” they mean not enough to really play beyond the first three character levels and as I mentioned little to no descriptions of building a character. Some limited spell tables labeled by class but that is it. Readymade characters are provided as I said but feels cheap and a waste of money overall. The module is fun but bare bones (written as if by the kid from Stranger Things, right?) - not worth the money!

Brilliant fun. One of my players decided to take a crack at Dungeon Mastering with this, and had us up and running after a ten minute read through. Very linear and simplistic, but easily embellished. Character sheets for standard archetypes are provided. There is no need to have seen the show, but there are odd Easter eggs in the adventure, added for flavour. Fair warning: the demogorgon miniatures are rubbish, and you'll certainly want to repaint the painted one. White base coat with a sepia wash for the body, then red highlighted with yellow in the maw; took about ten minutes to make them both game-worthy. They are made of slightly rubbery plastic, which isn't so nice to handle, but they are very resilient.

This a great set for new players or for people wanting a new experience even just fans of stranger things may like this. It's simple and easy to understand nothing too complicated what so ever. The figures may not be the best as people will say but still a nice edition to have in the set. Just give it a go don't let the negative reviews get to you.
