Quality is fine, versatility is rather uniform, good size for large format paper, no problem in easy test with water to make point. And paint a relatively thin line. No sizing in the hair, very few loose hairs. They look nice while they all seem about the same in rebound and spring, although three have different core hair. Perhaps they are all horse hair of different colors. but I have no experience with these hair brushes. Reminds me of chip brushes, but not as rough. Should be fine for mopping the paper for wet watercolor, or large washes. Have yet to try with pigment though. There are very tough because they survived being loosely packed with a 7 pound roll of copper cable.

Haven't used these yet, but am excited to try them! After I do, will jump back on here to augment my review. So far, I am impressed with the size, the natural hair (!) and lovely wood handles (the black hood pieces are plastic). Basically, the brushes are less than $5.00 each and very soft! Next, I want to make a board into a hanging devise, with hooks to hang these wonderful babies on.

For the price point these brushes are a good deal. They lose a star in packaging and storage. Box is a half an inch to short, damaging the brush tips.

These are fabulous large Sumi brushes ! Incredible quality and beautifully crafted all around. Get a set and watch them create magic before your eyes.

You can pay a lot of money for the best in Chinese calligraphy brushes and if you are just starting out and haven’t the cash these are ok. I’m using them for watercolour painting. They hold plenty of material and you can achieve a reasonable point. I use them for certain marbling effects also. Arrived in good time though packaging could have been a little better.

The first thing I did when I got this was get it wet to make sure it forms a nice point. It seemed to but then when I shook it over the sink just a little to get some excess water out of it, it snapped in two! It isn't even just that the handle came out from where it was glued, but the plastic it was glued into cracked and broke too. I can't tell even tell you how it is to paint with as I didn't get to, but it is VERY cheaply made. I am returning it and will look elsewhere.
