FEL-PRO SS 72861 Valve Stem Seal Set

In my 30+ years of using their products, I've come to believe FelPro is the standard by which others are judged, normally 5-star.Well, they slipped-up at least with the box of very-common SS72861 (16 pc, SBC Chevy) valve seals I received. I determined half-way through an install that although they looked correct, exactly one-half of the seals were a slightly different design apparently for a smaller valve stem (5/16ths v. SBC's 11/32nds); and though they seemed to go right on the valve guides the same, they actually sat about 0.10" to 0.13" too high compared to the correct seal, such that the spring retainer would come too close for comfort at full valve lift.Close inspection revealed the 8 pc that fit right had "72861" embossed on the seal lip face, while the wrong ones did not.So beware, and check that the seals in your box are ALL "72861" to avoid a possible failure situation from installing the wrong seal from the "right" box.

They are the same ones as the oem ones but they suck to install them all the way down. I try with a socket and still was giving me problems, the ring around it is really easy to get mess up. I end up taking the o ring off then i use the socket if not you will end up messing it all up.

Doing perfect, stopped the smoke on start up, just make sure you seat them all the way and be careful not to damage or break the spring around the top
