Sweet knife for a sweet price
With a name like Smith and Wesson behind it, I had high hopes but the price gave me some doubts. Showed up in a very plain box and this is not made by S&W, it's produced "under license" by some other company. Haven't bothered to research it much further and not sure if it matters to be honest. It's probably made in China or some other Asian country, but personally I'm not a made in America snob so whatever... However the quality is impressive, shows up very sharp and it feels really good in your hands. Also the sheath was the most surprising part of the deal, it's a really good sheath! Not like the crappy nylon ones that come with all the uber cheap knives. Well constructed and will hold up to extended abuse no doubt. Has a little sharpening stone also, already used it to sharpen one of my cheap chinese beater knives and works well. I wouldn't feel the least bit un-prepared if this were the only knife I owned. Great deal!

Good value, good quality
I received this knife as a gift for Xmas (although I wasn't surprised, because I asked for it). It has a good feel to it in your hand, and feels solid. VERY IMPORTANT: The pictures of two knife models are switched around. This knife is CKSUR1, but the picture above is actually the CKSUR2 (if you want to see the picture of THIS knife, the CKSUR1, go to the CKSUR2 page). Luckily one other reviewer noted this and I was prepared for it, but I can't believe more people haven't noted this in their reviews, and that it took so long for somebody to mention it; it's a very different shape. Based on the other reviews, I expected it to come out of the box very sharp, but mine was so dull I couldn't even cut paper without it just tearing instead. After some sharpening with the included stone, it was great. I really like the back edge, even though it's designed not to be very sharp. The sheath also has a good quality feel to it, and the knife fits well. All in all, this knife is a very good price for its quality, and I would recommend it to anyone as a very reliable starter or backup knife.

S&W Search And Rescue Knife
This is my favorite knife. I'll start with the sheath. It is made of nylon webbing, so its pretty heavy duty. There are 6 loops to attach it to things, which is nice if you're camping and want to tie it onto a backpack or something. It is re-enforced at the flex point where the knife enters the sheath, so its not going to fall apart. The part of the sheath that the knife is covered by is heavy plastic covered by nylon webbing. There is also a diamond file in a pocket on the front of the sheath. The velcro that holds the knife in the sheath is kind a pain because the blade guard catches on it every time you take the knife out or put it back in, but its there for a reason. The knife itself is great too. It is VERY sharp right out of the box, so be careful. It is nice and solid, fairly heavy and is well balanced. The "blood-line" doesn't actually serve a purpose, I don't know why its even there. The knife has to be put in the sheath in a certain direction, otherwise it doesn't go in all the way. If you know how to sharpen a knife, it is really easy to sharpen this one. You just have to be careful not to take off the black coating on the rest of the blade. Overall, this is the most practical (if a knife like this can be practical) knife I've bought in a long time. It is a little bit large, but besides that, it is a great fixed blade knife, equal in quality to any high priced Ka-Bar.

Okay for the price, but not as durable as I was hoping.
Bought this knife a couple months back hoping it would be something that would last and handle the way I wanted it to, but I can't it didn't dissapoint either though. I was expecting to use it in the field during camping and hiking, which I did, and it held up up until this past weekend. First off the sheath. VERY NICE! I like it a lot. With the plastic lining inside it'll last even longer because it won't cut away the fabric of the sheath itself like some Gerbers. Held a somewhat useful grind stone on the outside and all. I really like it. The knife is very appealing to the eye. Resembles the Ka-Bar older brother very much so. Handle is great. Really good weight. The only gripe is the hand guard. It was kind of loose and made a rattling sound sometimes and was loose if you tried to move it with your hand, but it held in place as it should've. The edge could've been sharper on the other hand, but it did the trick for 90% of the time, so no complaints. Now the durability. I used the knife of course to shave branches, bark off logs, and even hacked away and a few branches about 5" to 6" in circumfrance, worked up until this weekend when I was trying to hack at really dried up old wood and the blade went flying off in the middle of the night. Had to search for it with my head lamp and it clean broke off where the handle met the blade. I did use it a little to poke around and move wood for the fire while it was burning, but not enough where I think it would actually weaken the integrity of the blade. I used it previously on another camping trip and did the same things with it and it survived. So it literally lasted two camping trips only. I called it my bitch knife just because it did whatever I wanted it to, and it did it with no problems. Would I get it again? Maybe not, but for a starter knife with light to medium use it'll last a while and a good buy. I'd give it a 3.5 or a 4 max in rating.

Great Knife, Great Price
If your looking for a nice knife at a nice price, this is the knife for you. For about $20, I think it is well worth your money. The knife itself feels good in the hand. It has just enough weight that it feels really light but not too light that is would be hard to use. It came razor sharp out of the box in my case. The blade is a good length and the coat is nice. The blade coating is sort of textured; it doesn't seem painted on, more like powder coated. The Smith and Wesson logo, name, and the words Search and Rescue are etched onto the blade. The sheath that this knife comes with seems to be worth $20 by itself. It is the best fixed blade sheath I have ever had. It's not one of those flimsy cloth sheaths that you would expect with a cheap knife. It has a harder plastic backing that is covered in cloth. The knife fits nice and snug and could easily be secured upside down. It has a main loop for normal upright belt carry. It also has loops for horizontal belt carry and a ring at the top that can be attached with a carabiner or a rope. Although you don't need it, there is a Velcro loop to secure the blade in the sheath. On top of the blade part, there is pouch which comes with a Smith and Wesson whetstone in it. Overall it is a very nice knife at a very low price.

Best Quality and Value for a Knife You Can Get
I've been searching quiet a while for a fixed blade knife as a heavy-duty multipurpose tool to carry. The Smith & Wesson brand speaks for itself on so many levels. I selected this knife after reading many reviews on several knives and could not ignore the comments on this knife. I was cautiously optimistic when purchasing this product, being sold on the reviews, brand, history, multipurpose uses, design, style and the heavy-duty nylon black sheath included. What I received well exceeded my expectations due to the weight, balance, ease of use, design, handling and the size literally caught me off guard. The packaging was excellent and the knife comes with a seriously sharp edge, so be careful. I would recommend taking the copy of the Lifetime Warranty and Care Instructions, blowing them up 200% and darkening by +1 intensity so they can actually be read without a magnifying glass. This is a reasonably good size knife after being used to folding tactical knives of about 8 inches overall. The sheath alone is amazing in its design for multiconfiguration as one would require at any particular time. I like the use of snaps and hook and loop fastening to make changes. A quality sharpening stone is included with its own detachable pocket. This might sound like a small insignificant item, but the lace to tie the knife around the leg is a nice added touch. All-in-all a highly developed product comfortably meeting the many needs of a user from simply carrying it with you for the needs that might come up, to camping, hiking, uses around the home, tool shed or even in the car for emergencies. This is my second Smith & Wesson knife product and once again there are no disappointments. I highly recommend this product.

Great knife, great price.
I really just did this to counter the one star rating that guy gave it. That "un-painted casting mark" is the PIN that holds the POMMEL on! The coating on this knife is a very durable baked-on coating which requires the metal to be heated up after the stuff is applied. The handle is a very nice rubber, and it would melt if they baked it with the handle on, so, the pieces are coated, THEN assembled. This knife is very simple and has FIVE PARTS TOTAL which make it VERY rugged! Blade (full tang, tang is almost 1/2 inch wide, and I'd guess 3/8 inch thick), cross-guard (ends are pointed up, not down, I like that), nice grippy but smooth handle, the solid steel pommel, and the pin. Takes and holds an edge very well. The sheath is crap, but luckily, Kabar sheaths are common. Just make sure to get one that takes a knife with a 6i nch blade, because this knife has a 6 inch blade instead of the normal 7 inch blade. Great knife for a GREAT price!

Good knife okay case
I just got my knife today so I haven't exactly gotten to test it fully, But the knife seem to be really high quality. The knife comes with an okay sheath that has attachments to fit Molle gear which is kinda handy. In the sheath there's a nice little Velcro pocket which holds the sharpening stone. The sharpening is an okay sharpening stone it would do in a pinch if you didn't have any thing else with you like in a survival situation. One of my favorite parts about the knife is the handles rubber grip it seems to be really sturdy and "just feels right in your hand". Also the knife is full tang, but sadly I save the worst for last...the knife's guard is plastic. It doesn't seem to be low quality plastic but still its plastic. This is the only thing that I found about the knife I did not like but for twenty-five dollars it's worth it. Get this knife trust me for the money you will NOT be disappointed!

Tip Top

Impressive Build Quality, Great Value
So I bought this knife because I wanted a nice large fixed blade knife for use in the forest where I work, as well as a tool for camping. First off, package came remarkably fast, within 2-3 days of processing my order. Upon opening the box, the first thing I noticed was the amazing quality of the sheath. The sheath was made of a hard plastic with thick nylon wrap screwed firmly around it, a D ring was sown onto the end the sheath which would be handy if you wanted to attach the knife onto a bag or piece of clothing via carabiner clip. There were longitudinal and horizontal loops for a variety of ways of securing the knife, eg. on your belt, backpack, pole etc. in addition to slots for additional straps. It was nice that there wasnt a lack of attention paid to detail of the sheath. They even include a small side pocket in the sheath and simple honing stone to go with it! To top the cake with icing, an engraved metal sheath guard boasts Smith and Wesson logo. I can't say too much about the knife as I havent been able to test it out yet, but I can say it that it feels really well put together. The whole knife has a good weight to it and is well balanced at the hilt. The blade is a nice 3.5mm thick piece of metal, extended full-tang into the length of the grip, arrived razor sharp, and powder coated in a heavy duty black paint. There was even a blunt 90deg edge at the back tip of the blade which I didn't see in the picture. A nice bonus for splitting tree branches without damaging the sharpness of your blade! All in all, this knife is an amazing value, and more than met my expectation of a $30 dollar knife. A must buy for all outdoor enthusiasts and knife collectors. I highly recommend!
