It no longer makes a solid contact with the charging base, so it will not get hot. One of them has started to wear away and appears to have some sort of pitting as if it is acid burned. Also, the iron doesn't hold temperature for long at all. You can make maybe one solid pass before having to put it back onto the base to get warm again. If you use the steam feature, it does not stay hot enough to create only steam and not water.
