But look at the one- and two-star reviews for the cheapest ones - the biggest complaint is that it is covered with a shiny coating that comes off with use or when washed. Look for one like this one - "uncoated solid stainless steel." You'll be glad you did. And measure your espresso filter basket thingy (whatever you call it) carefully. If the diameter of the tamper is too big, it won't work for you. This one is basic, uncoated solid stainless steel. I've had it for a few months and it looks the same as the day I got it. Alas, I measured too fast and the Krups actually is more like 49 mm, not 51mm! Since it was my fault, I decided not to return and to try my bench grinder to reduce it. Took about a half hour with the grinding and polishing up, but it worked fine. And this ain't no cheapie plated item like some of the competitors appear to be, solid stainless all the way as I ground it down. This does not need to come apart for cleaning. It does not need to come apart at all. But as shipped from the factory, it definitely WILL come apart nearly every time you use it, unless you put loctite or epoxy on the threads.
