FIRST TIMER. Honest review.
I am a first time epillator user and I'm giving this product five stars with an honest review. No free products, discounts etc were offered to me by anyone. First I will say that most of the reviews are accurate. I was well prepared for my first epil experience because I had read so many great reviews. Thanks everyone!! I just want to remind you, this product plucks hairs, it does not cut them. This was the selling point for me because of my skin condition and how sensitive I am to razors or cutting devices. This is the only product on the market with as little metal as it is composed of. My skin thanks Braun! People who claimed the first time was the most painful, were 100% accurate. I have now used my epil 9 three times and each time is less painful. I have only used this on my legs and armpits so far. The armpits were VERY sensitive. If this is your first time using an epillator I suggest the following: 1) have a glass of wine. (21 & older.) 2) take a hot soak or use moist hot towels to open up your pores, the hairs pull easier this way. 3) dry off well and use baby powder for any tacky feelings left in the hairy area. (You can use this wet, but it seems like it does a better job dry.) 4) start with your legs if it's your first time. Don't stay too long on one spot. Move the epil around the entire area. This will wake up your pain receptors and get your brain to do its job to help desentistize you. After you sort of skim the entire area go back section by section and it won't hurt as bad as the initial touchdown. If you need to take a break in one area, move on to a new one. When you go back, it will hurt a little less. If that feels okay you might be ready for your arm pits. 5) for your arm pits, definitely DO NOT pass up on heating your pits to open up those pores!!! Spend a bit more time here than with your legs. Have some aloe ready for soothing and don't be bummed if you cannot make it through. You'll get there! Keep in mind that any hair that were not present during thre first plucking will need to surface. You'll have a couple uncomfortable first rounds, but once you've epillated every hair they all grow back slower and finer. You will achieve smooth legs, but not necessarily after the first time you try this. It really does get easier. I'm hooked and happy that this does exactly as it's advertised. Everyone has different pain thresh-holds. This product might not be for anyone. The best way to describe the feeling the first time would probably be, "A hot wave of pinches," Rolling accross the hair area. It's fast...and the quicker your move along the better. For me, it's worth it! No more dealing with hair every day wasting my money on one razor brand after the next trying to find something compatible with my skin. This product does not give me any issues, no lost sleep for itchy rashes, no weird in-grown hairs. I'm very happy with the results. I hope this helps!

This product is AMAZING!!
This product is AMAZING!!! I have white skin and dark thick hair, I have been waxing for years, but I always hated it as it was very expensive at a salon and when I did it at home it was very messy and took forever so occasionally I would shave instead. I had been looking for a way to deal with hair removal for a long time, I looked into laser but it was also expensive and the results were questionable. So after a lot of research I decided to buy this Braun epilator. I wasn't sure how I would like it due to the mixed reviews. It arrived very fast and in good condition and it works great, I can't believe I didn't find out about this sooner!! I use it after I shower and it gets all the hair on my legs and under arms - and I have a lot of hair! I was able to get thick hair and peach fuzz type hair no problem, and I was able to do it decently fast (and that's after letting my hair grow for over a month). The light on the Braun is super handy, the charge lasts for a long time, I was able to do both my legs and under arms and it was still charged when I was done. It does hurt a little at first but if you have been waxing then your roots are already pretty weak and honestly the pain didn't bother me at all, on a scale of 1-10 it was probably a 2 and in some sensitive areas a 3 1/2. The Braun is very easy to hold and very easy to clean and works great in water or dry, I've noticed it works best right after a shower but because it is water proof it is easy to clean. And my skin feels really smooth after I use it. I was able to get hair that I can't normally reach with waxing or that I am too lazy to try and wax due to the odd angles and the mess. I will never go back to shaving or waxing again and am totally hooked on my Braun epilator!! I found myself looking for more hair as it was so easy to use. Just bare the pain the first few times if you are not a normal waxer, its totally worth it, I barely even felt it and my legs look wonderful!

Loved t! The best
I've been using the Philipis Satinelle for 5 months and it was the best thing I ever did. I used to shave every single day, because my body hair would grow really fast, when I started with the little epilator it was just to see how much better then shave would be, after testing for a while I decided to get q better and bigger one. After reading a lot of reviews everywhere I bought this one for 122$ here on Amazon and I started to use on the same day I got it. The Braun Silk-epil 9 is awesome. I was using another epilator for a while so my skin was adapt to the "pain" and this feels even less, it's just a tiny pinch. This one is bigger so I cut so my time now. I can do full legs, full arms, stomach and underarm in less then 20 min. I absolutely loved it! I have a really high tolerance for pain so it can be that, but I try to use it when my hair is about a second day of growth and it hurts nothing and it is faster. The only con I have is that I was really looking forward to use this in the shower but feels like it's not getting the hair out, so I just gave up and did it dry. I usually do it on Sunday and have very smooth skin for at least 4 days, and when the hair starts to grow is usually thinner so Is saving me lots of time. Love it! If it hurts for you, just keep trying and using in small areas, take your time, it will get better.

I've owned this for 4.5 years!
Amazon tells me I purchased this epilator at the beginning of 2016 and it is now nearing the end of 2020! I didn't realize how long I've had it until I came to look at purchasing a new one... Mine is starting to die, it is no longer holding its charge well, so I am going to buy a replacement... but an almost 5 year lifespan is pretty good. It might even have lasted longer if I had not dropped it a few times over the last year or so lol. And it might be smarter to not store it in the shower like I did. Anyway, this epilator works really great on thick hair. I use it on my armpits... the first few times it felt like being stabbed by a knife, but you start to get used to it. Now I epilate my armpits every few days (but I only need to once a week) and it really doesn't hurt at all. My pits get way smoother than they ever did when I used to shave them and there is never any stubble because the hair grows back tapered, not with a blunt cut-off edge. I do not use this on my legs because it just would take way too long, and not offer great results. I have fine hair on my legs. Shaving is super fast but epilating took a long time, and more often than not, the hairs would just break off instead of be pulled out completely. My legs never ever felt smooth and soft after epilating and it took such a long time to do them. And worse, because it would not pull every hair out, the hairs didn't even grow back slower. It was like a worse version of shaving. So I do not use this on my legs, I just shave for like 20 seconds per leg and I'm good. Epilating them honestly took like an hour sometimes. But since it's so dang awesome for my armpits, I'm definitely going to repurchase and continue using it, I will never go back to shaving my armpits! I also use it on my hands and knuckles sometimes, I have dark hair and light skin so I like to remove the hair in my hands. It breaks some of those hairs too but does a pretty good job. I use it on my stomach too because I get a couple stray hairs there. I absolutely love it!!

Works great!
I was wary to try this because of how painful everyone says it is, but honestly if you just learn to embrace it, it's not bad at all (and it's only very temporary, stops hurting a few seconds later!) Some tips I learned from around the internet that are helping me: 1. Exfoliate the area with a disinfected (antibacterial hand soap) hammam glove or something similar before you epilate. You want to remove the dead skin on the surface before you start. You can use whatever soap you want as long as it doesn't leave a residue. Shampoo works fine for me because it softens the hair. Don't forget to wash them hands too! 2. Make sure you sterilise the epilator before you use it. This will help to prevent ingrown hairs because it won't be trapping as much bacteria in your pores. I like to fill a tiny sauce cup with rubbing alcohol beforehand and run the epilator in it for about a minute, then let it dry. 3. Take it SLOW! This is not meant to be used like a razor where you just make a quick pass up the skin. You want to pull all the hairs out and that takes time. I know it hurts more, but it stops hurting once all the hair is pulled out. Learn to embrace it! Just pull it against the grain slowly while holding your skin taut, and if you feel the need, pass it in the opposite direction over that area again just to make sure. You can do this as many times as you need, the light will help you see any stray hairs. 5. Exfoliate again after you've finished. I like to use the max strength Stridex pads as a chemical exfoliant once I'm done, but anything with salicylic acid will do. This helps to prevent ingrown hairs from popping up because it cleans out the pores. 6. Moisturise! I use Palmer's cocoa butter with vitamin E, but use anything you like. 7. You may feel some stubble after the first few times and that's fine. Sometimes there are short hairs that can't be pulled easily by the epilator. This problem will solve itself as you epilate more; they just need a little extra time to grow long enough to be pulled. 8. Again, the pain is temporary! DON'T PANIC! It's not doing any lasting damage, you will be okay! This thing works great. Well worth the money IMO, I couldn't be happier.

Goodbye hairs, hello soft, hair-free skin!
To start off, no epilator you will ever buy will be painless, and if anyone says that this or any other one is painless, they are lying. Epilating is going to be painful no matter what, because you are pulling the hair from the root, and doing so with multiple hairs at the same time. That said, this epilator is REALLY great and significantly less painful than my old philips ice one from around 2010-2011! This is the 2nd epilator I've ever owned. I used both of them on both legs to compare pain, and this one was SIGNIFICANTLY LESS PAINFUL. After the hairs were removed and I was going over the areas again for any missed ones, it felt more like a massage than anything. Depending on if this is your first time removing hair from the root (for example, if you've never waxed or epilated before), how thick and course your hair is, and also how long your hair is, the pain will differ. On a general note, if you have softer, thinner, and shorter hair, this will be less painful than if you have strong, thick, long hairs. I have used this epilator on my legs (full) and underarms, but not my bikini area, face, or anywhere else. For me, underarms are more painful than legs, but this may vary person to person. It was able to remove every single hair. FOR FIRST TIME USERS: - Do it at night, because you might get small bumps or redness. - Take a hot shower or bath first, to open your poors and soften the hairs. But DO NOT use this in the shower/bath though because the water makes your hair slippery, and will make epilating take much longer (in my opinion). - Start from a hairless spot and work your way up (for example, start with your ankle and work up your leg rather than starting right in the middle of your leg). - Take as long as you need; DON'T RUSH. Rushing can break the hair and then it won't be pulled out from the root. - Use TENDSKIN or something similar after wards, to prevent ingrown hairs. This step is SO IMPORTANT, especially in your underarms. Trust me. I would reccomend buying tendskin and this together. - DO NOT use deodorant or any harsh chemicals in your underarms after using this, otherwise it might burn. - If it hurts a lot after, use some ice. - Know that it will begin to hurt significantly less over time... After 1 month of use, you'll notice it hurts less, because your hair won't be as strong. - Charge it after you use it, so it's ready for your next use. I have zero complains... I did have to go over the same area multiple times to get all the hairs out, but I think that's normal for an epilator. Also, I used this straight out of the box (it was already charged), and I'm already in love.

What was Braun thinking? Dumb "improvement"
Hate the 9. I had a Silk-epil 7 and loved it; however, after 2 years of weekly use (yes, my hair grows fast, but I could actually go a couple days without needing to epilate--freedom!), the tweezers lost some of their grippiness and were pulling on the hairs and ripping them off. Not pleasant. I decided to "upgrade" to the 9. Hey, it's newer; it's improved, right? The 9 is horrible. Sure, it has a 40% wider head...but the same 42 tweezers. Those 42 tweezers are now spread out which means there are fewer tweezers rotating over each spot. It's like going from a 3-blade razor to a 1-blade razor. I have to go over the same spot so many times and so much slower. Epilating takes twice as long with the 9, and the tweezers simply don't pull the hairs out as efficiently. With the 9 I've had more damaged follicles than I ever had with the 7. So many hairs simply get ripped off at the surface and I get these terrible red, tender...spots (for lack of a better word). The 9 is worse than my 7--even in its current, dulled condition. Seriously? What nincompoop thought spreading the same measly 42 tweezers over more space was a good idea? If you're going to do that, you need to add more in the line up. I mean...wow, maybe even 62 tweezers--step back! Don't get crazy, Braun. Don't do something that would make sense. Let's face it, 42 tweezers was pretty pathetic to begin with. Go with the 7 and save some money while the overpaid engineers at Braun try to figure this out. *smdh Maybe the 10 will be an actual improvement. This review was more about the dumb design. If you've never epilated, it's going to hurt. You're ripping your hair out of the follicles. Duh. Prepare for it. Suck it up. In the long run, it's worth it. Of course, I went through the initial h*ll of using an Epilady Coil back in the early 1990's. Now THAT hurt. I can't speak for the wet usage of this. Why would I stand in the shower that long and waste the water? I live in the desert, and the planet does not have a limitless supply of fresh water. If you take baths...knock yourself out and try it. However, keep in mind that wet hair (even on your legs) is more fragile. You risk ripping it off at the surface and not pulling it out as it should be. Of course, with the 9, you risk that anyhow.

What I like is that the head is wider than the Epilady
This product does what it says it will do. I should start by saying I've been a committed Epilady user for over a decade, so after reading the product reviews from Braun, I thought I would give the competition a chance. I read the reviews, and most were written by people who had received a free Braun to test. That should have been a warning to me. What I like is that the head is wider than the Epilady, and the size, overall, is a little larger. I wouldn't say it hurts less, as the whole process does not feel great, but the results are worth it. It also appears to catch shorter hairs than the Epilady. There are three things I don't like. First, is the price. It's very expensive, comparatively speaking, and I don't think the benefits compensate for the cost. Second, the product is poorly made in terms of the plastic. I was using it in the shower (which is actually another benefit compared to Epilady), and it slipped out of my hand. That should be expected, as the shower is wet. However, when it hit the floor, the top came off and the blade portion broke away from the product. Epilady does not have the plastic as cheap or flimsy, and I feel that Braun should have done a better job considering that many would fall in the shower. since I had only had it a few months, I contacted customer service to see what I could do. Customer service and repairs were the third area that need improvement. Customer service, of course, claimed no design flaw, and I think it's a design flaw or materials flaw. Nevertheless, they told me to find a participating repair site on the website, pay to send it to the repair site, and then the repair site would look at it and indicate whether it was covered under warranty or not. I was told that I would have it back at my house within 15 days. It did not turn out that way at all. I never received word that it was received by the repair site, even though my tracking indicated it was. This forced me to contact customer service again about a month later They must have talked to the repair facility, as I received a phone call saying it wasn't covered under warranty, but they could put a new head on for about $40. I figured that was still slightly less expensive than a brand new Epilady, so I did that. However, I'm still unhappy with the quality of the product and the lack of communication with the repair shop.
