Sea to Summit Daypack Backpacks, Grey

I must admit, I was skeptical when I first opened the bag. It seemed so lightweight, I was worried that it would not be able to handle much. I bought it specifically because of its size (about the size of a lime when packed); we were traveling and I needed something to carry necessities while hiking. Upon using the bag, I found it was able to easily accommodate the weight of my hiking needs (first aid kit, water bottle, camera, wallet, etc) and is made out of material that is tougher than you’d expect at first glance. It may look light duty, but it was exactly what I needed. It is likely not the best choice if this is your only pack, but if you use it to hold only what you need until you return to your campsite/hotel, it’s a great option. I would recommend and would buy again.

Carry this in a pocket of a larger travel backpack. Has come in handy many times. Easily fits in a pocket too. Very strong and lightweight.

This day pack is extremely light! I used this pack on the last 4.5 miles up Mt. Whitney a couple weeks ago. It was just big enough for the minimal gear I took to the top (puffy, wind pants, wind jacket, 700ml water bottle, snacks, at about 3 lbs loaded weight). The only negative is that the shoulder straps have nothing inside to ensure they lay flat against your shoulders. Because of this, the straps scrunch up into a tight "rope" like configuration (especially over the shoulder and in the armpit) which is very uncomfortable after a day hike. This is the only thing keeping this pack from being 5 stars. While it will add some weight, I will be adding a very small section 1/8 close cell foam and silpoly material to the straps to ensure they do not bunch up. It will add less than an ounce to the total weight, but the comfort gained will be well worth it.

I bought one of these bags a long time ago and I loved it. Unfortunately I lost it in 2020, so this was a replacement order. Sadly, the bag does not seem to be of the same quality. It came with the zipper seam already pulling apart. Then, in the first day of use, it developed 2 separate holes, with no obvious causes. Still a great bag for its size, but I am disappointed in the decline in quality.

Let me first say I love Sea to Summit products. While this bag is cool in theory due to it’s small size and light weight, it’s just not practical. The straps bunch up and cut into your shoulders. I developed a seam tear near the zipper carrying only a jacket and Nalgene bottle after a few uses. Invest in something more rugged. The best use for this item is to throw your clothing in it inside your main pack to keep your stuff dry.

The zipper broke the first day I used it. Great concept but obviously not so good execution. But I bought them in advance of our trip so no refund for a broken product.
