Hated it
I forced my way through only part of this book. Finally, I hated it so much that I gave in. The writing quality is poor and the plot absurd. Ms. Romig clearly needs a refresher in remedial English. Her inability to use pronouns is enough to cross my eyes. I'm not looking for poetry in women's fiction, but (spoiler alert) the notion of a rape victim falling in love with the man who brutalized her? No thank you. I don't care how you sow it, the idea is just offensive. Maybe Ms. Romig has never been wronged in her life, but for those of us who have, you never, ever fall in love with your rapist. I don't care how great his abs are.

Zero Stars — My Eye May Never Stop Twitching
This book is an OCD reader’s nightmare. The use of quotation marks around every individual sentence in many conversations, even when the same person was still speaking, was irretrievably distracting at best and incredibly annoying. Inconsistent capitalizations, missing words and punctuation throughout, the use of italics for anything of a name brand, the obvious sycophancy for the Drumpf name — all of these would have ruined even a book with a decent story line. Sadly, this book lacked that much, too. The “relationship” between Claire and Anthony was disturbing and gross, and should have ended the first time she had a chance to run. That the entire book was a journey into their twisted excuse for a romance was off-putting in more ways than I can even count here. I read to the end of this to find out what she would do to avenge herself, but instead was met with nothing. He was already on to the next one. All told, I’m seriously pissed about the five hours of my life I can’t get back after reading this terrible mess. Would not recommend or ever read again.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
My Kindle says this book is 409 pages. I love long books and continuing sagas but this one has pages and pages of long, drawn out, intricate and boring descriptions which IMO this author includes simply to add pages to her book! The book is about a psychopath, Anthony Rawlings, who is bent on revenge for a perceived wrong to his greedy Grandfather, who was imprisoned for illegal business dealings. Tony kidnaps Claire Nichols and imprisons her in his large estate, where he repeatedly rapes and beats her as well as psychologically abusing her. She "earns" priveleges (such as leaving her suite, walking the grounds of the estate, and eventually meeting his friends and business associates, and being seen in public as his companion) by following his strict rules to the letter and by performing sexual favors. Eventually she "falls in love" with her rapist (can you say STOCKHOLM SYNDROME!) and marries him. She expects to be his life partner, but is still under his control. Any little "glitch" on her part and she finds herself again subjected to sexual and physical abuse and loss of "priveleges".Tony has played his part well and everyone thinks he is a wonderful, generous, loving person. But eventually he must tire of his little game with Claire and frames her for his attempted murder. She ends up in prison with nothing...no friends, no money...nothing.The ending left me wanting more. I wanted to see Tony get what he had coming to him And it does imply that Claire seeks revenge on Anthony. So...the plot continues for four (yes, 4) more books. I just can't face plodding through even one more. I don't care for author, Aleatha Ronig's writing style. CONCLUSION: Our actions have consequences. IMO the consequence to Aleatha Ronig is that no one should waste their money, and more importantly their time, reading this book, much less the series.

How is this so highly rated??
Where do I start?? This book is awful in my opinion. Here's why:First thing I noticed is that the dialogue is stilted and robotic. Characters, especially Anthony, don't often use contractions in their dialogue. This makes for horrible flow and pulls you out of the narrative because it's odd and disconcerting.Secondly, the characters are flat, unrealistic, and don't behave in ways that actual humans would. Anthony is completely flat, which is pretty darn hard to pull off considering he's a psychopath. How can a psychopath be that uninteresting? I don't know but he's got nothing on Claire. Hoo boy. Anthony does HORRIBLE criminal things to her and I'll omit her eventual reaction to avoid spoilers but I was appalled. Also, she had ample opportunities to escape and didn't bother. I was out at that point.Lastly, this book was never ending and lasted far, FAR too long. It has FIFTY FIVE chapters and about 40 of them are completely inconsequential. Just dull and repetitive and ridiculous.

WOW What a book
I purchased the whole box set and I am so far amazed at the story. I promise not to give any spoilers but BOY OH BOY this is not what I expected! I have only finished the 1st book but was so amazed by the story line that I needed to give this book a reviewThe whole book is based on mindsets (his and hers) so if you are looking for erotica this is not the book for you, It is not an Alpha Male meets poor pretty girl and they fall in love after having lots and lots of amazing sex and then live happily ever after, nor is is a book like One Day where they meet, fall in love but do not tell each other and then one dies. This book is different, original and a compulsive read!I cried, I laughed (albeit not a lot), I wished and hoped and screamed and at the end of the book rubbed my hands together and cheered!I finished book 1 an hour ago and have already started book 2!!!!!!Book 1 is free at the moment so I suggest you grab a copy, find a cosy corner and start reading. This may not be a book for all but it is a book for me!

Starts brilliant, then just gets worse and worse
I was so disappointed by the time i finished this book. In the beginning I loved it, was 100% sure it was a 5 star review and already started looking at other books by the author. I was gripped, I could visualise the characters etc... this was for the first 30% of the book. Then it just went down hill and got worse and worse. By 70%, i really considered just stopping reading, but then some reviews said the end was great so i persevered. But i have to be honest, I did end up skimming a few pages where it was obviously the same repeated stuff again. Unfortunately I wasn't that impressed with the ending. It was a twist I didn't guess at the start, but i just kind of felt like 'so what?'.Here's my major gripes with the book - the word "compartmentalize" is repeated so much in the second half of the book that i literally wanted to chuck my kindle at the wall every time the author repeated it. You are also constantly updated on the villains ever colour changing eyes. There was no reason to go on about it THAT much. Also, and this may be kind of a little bit spoiler-ish so apologies, but - I wanted to read a thriller book. Something that scared and chilled me. But after the first 30% of this book, I suddenly just felt like i was reading fifty shades of grey or something (ive never read it, but from what i hear, i imagine it's similar). I just found it frustrating and annoying.By the end of it, I felt nothing for the victim either. It's a shame.Anyway, I've given it 3 stars because the first 30% was worth 5 stars to me, the second and third part were worth 2 stars, so I've evened it out!

As recommended in someone else's review once I got tired of ...
The abuse was dragged out and described for no scenaristical reason I could see. As recommended in someone else's review once I got tired of the repetitivity of Claire's though "I hate him"=>"Oh he's nice"=>He hurts her=>I hate him=>but he's being nice...etc I skipped over to 90%. I understand that we were meant to be in the mind of a mentally and physically abused woman most of the time, but nothing required such extensive description and repetition.Furthermore, the writing style did not manage to make me connect to the characters at all, and as mentionned in other comments this book could have been much shorter and have the same impact.I understand that this book discusses quite dark subjects, but the way they were handled did not engage me with the storyOverall, I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Enthralling from start to finish
Not the ending i was hoping for or expecting - a true 3 part story so (amazon kindle unlimited users) expect to NEED to buy the sequel after reading this one included on membership.Claires journey is a rollercoaster that kept me captivated the whole way through and i was unable to predict what would happen next or the outcome. I can't wait to read the next one as it truely ends on a cliffhanger......Its a love story, with twists and turns and some dark corners. The abuse and sex is mostly insinuated. Its very well written.

Inappropriate usage of words, tortuous writing.
With this being the first segment, it did hold my interest for the better part of the story. When Claire was incarcerated fairly early in the story-line, the reader had to read on to uncover the reasons for the bizarre behaviour of the man who seized control of her life. The unveiling of the motivation behind what was happening did keep me reading to the end. But not much happened until the last quarter of 'Consequences' - other than the shocking mistreatment of a young woman by a disturbed man with violent tendencies. There were pages and pages of the 'good living' that was supposed to be a trade-off for the heroine. In return for her subservience to the psychotic 'hero' - who by the way, remained the villain to the end, at least as far as this reader was concerned, the subjugated woman was allowed to embark on some endless rounds of shopping for beautiful clothes. Then there were the trips to Europe, the pampered lifestyle - in between further mistreatment from her abductor. The tenseness with which the story had first started only picked up towards the close of the narrative - not enough to make this into a contender as a 'thriller'. As for the 'romance' - no way would I be able to view him as the 'hero' who had carried the lady off into the sunset - not in this first part of their interaction and not even at the end of it in the third segment 'Convicted'. I had already downloaded all three instalments on my Kindle, so had to make myself stay the course to the end.Throughout the story, the usage of the word 'prevailed' out of its proper context as well as the misuse of other terms of expressions turned what could have been at least an acceptable read into one that was aggravating. The writing did not flow well, In many places it was verbose and cringing. Not a keeper.
