The joys of old houses. Very hard to find, so when i found this I bought one to try. Despite good reviews, i was a little skeptical. We finally found these Avalon handles and they are terrific. The design is said to be contemporary; but it fits well to our non-contemporary style decor. They are relatively easy to install, quiet, and the solid handle really gives them the quality feel. Here is my installation experience: The lock mechanism that is inserted into the edge of the door is slightly larger than some of the round holes in our doors. I had to chisel out corners in order for the lock to fit into the round hole. Not a big problem, it just took a few more minutes. There is a plate that covers the lock, I had to chisel the recess deeper so the plate fits flush with the edge of the door. There is a plastic rectangle 'cup' like thing that supposedly goes behind the strike plate. The hole behind the strike is round and it would have taken me too much time to chisel a rectangle hole, so I tossed the plastic cup.
